RimWorld
Why is one mad squirrel more of a threat to me than a bunch of bandits with swords?

Rimworld squirrels are several times bigger than normal squirrels, they weigh up to 10KG which is almost 20 times heavier than the usual squirrel weight of 500-600 grams.
I actually haven't looked at the squirrel bio page yet. Are they seriously that big? That.... that would make more sense then.

They don't list the live weight in game anymore for some reason, but you can look at the body size. A human is 1.0, a RimWorld Squirrel is 0.15, almost 1/6 the size of an adult human. So the thing is probably larger than your leg and coming at you without the fear of death.

It's still generally trivial for a naked and unarmed pawn to deal with one, but RNG is RNG.
it's funny that somebody necro'd this because they had the same experience, lol
i got a solution for you
Use a gun and if that don't work, use more gun

I had a soldier armed with a rifle and full body flak armor, and a worker with a knife. Neither of them were able to land a hit and both of them died before he went after the kid.
Sorry if i sound like a ♥♥♥♥, but seriously, learn to kite. Nuff said. :Litho:
Ever tried to shoot a frisbee in flight at waist-height, side-on, while the wind has hold of it?

Damage and death mechanics are utterly stupid, but trying to hit the little pricks is at least somewhat realistic.

Can't kite something that moves 10 times faster than you if it's already plucking your eyes out with its teeth.
Just shoot it, unless RNGesus just loves me, a squirrel dies to a single bullet, every time. You can't even get hit from it if you sit inside till it stops being mad, the non violent or scaredy cat tactic.

Unless your colonists are missing legs, feet or toes, or have a negative movement penalty from health penalties such as "Bad Back" or "Frailty", squirrels do not move faster than colonists.

They do actually. Squirrels move at 5.1 c/s while the base movement speed for a colonist is 4.6. It's far from 10 times faster obviously, but you can't really kite them very long. One person running in circles with the squirrel chasing them while ranged pawns shoot at it will buy you some free shots, but the squirrel will catch up.
Ah, thanks for the data - I couldn't find base colonist move speed in the wiki for some reason. And, of course, every time I've had to make a colonist run from a mad squirrel, the squirrel would get killed long before it reached the fleeing colonist :b

Um... You shouldn't be able to mine usable machine/electronic components from the ground, either ^^'.
wait, where are those things coming from then? i thought we just had some huge electronics mines over in china and that's where our phones come from.
Ah, i guess thats it. I always start with a Jogger. The red ones go faster.
A rush down melee can often be more threatening than a person who stays away with ranged, if you can't lure them around. They will often close and ruin you. It's high risk high reward.
