Chickens: Viable vs. Dead fertilized eggs.
Trying to setup a nice ChickSplosion chicken farm, and I'm running into a silly problem.

The climate is borderline frozen, so chickens lay fertilized eggs out in the open, and these very often get killed by being frozen.
The problem is that these "dead" fertile eggs are NOT treated any differently from viable live fertilized eggs. So my haulers promptly pile them into the breeder spot, turning the WHOLE STACK of good eggs into "dead" eggs by adding one dead egg on top.

How do I get my haulers to differentiate between live and dead fertilized chicken eggs?

Has a toggle option that automatically converts ruined eggs (any type of egg) into unfertilized chicken eggs.

Set up a critical storage zone for eggs (fert.) and uncheck fresh at the top, and then uncheck rotten on your normal egg stockpile

Nope.
The "dead" fertilized eggs do NOT register as "rotten"
They are fresh, edible and good. Just not alive

You toggle on the stove bill to use the fertilized eggs, wait until all eggs have been disposed of, and then try again while praying for better weather. Remember, Rimworld is a game for masochists - you play because you enjoy being inconvenienced and having your time wasted.

Or wait for a modder to add the "ruined by temperature" filter because Tynan sure as hell isn't gonna bother to fix this mess.

At this point I just have to ask....

Why do you play a game you hate so much? I have yet to see you say anything good about the game at any level. And to top it off you constantly attack the developer. Why even bother?

I'm sad to say, but that's the best I could come up with, too.

The whole chicken egg->hatching thing seems a bit contrived.
You can have a single egg that is 95% hatched.
They you quickly pile on another 19 newly-laid healthy fertile eggs, and 5 seconds later you have 20 chickens. Seems the egg health and percentage hatched, is tracked per stack not per egg.

barn ranged breeders(small pop rooster 2 hens) and leave a second coop of just hens in another area for unfert eggs to cook.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Just make a zone and lock chickens in the coop

That's different from my experience: item stats do track per stack, but they calculate average when new item added. if 95% ready egg is mixed with 19 fresh ones, whole stack will be at ~5% maturity.

Never said he hated it, he said "because you are a masochist". I think that answers the question quite well.

Although I think "masochist with a sense of humor" really is the full requirement. Because the game constantly hits you with waves of tragedy, which is also comedy, which is also tragedy...

And... yes egg management is annoying as hell. It's sort of a study in zen to stay relaxed and accept that sometimes you get 10 chicks when you thought you had told people to make meals, and vice versa.

And if you have egg eater animals.
And you zone animals away from fertile egg storage.
Then animals get FLU.
And one very good doctor, will grab all those eggs and feed to animals.
