Cannot hault X; no accessible, empty spot configured to store it
This is not the first time this has happened, and I continue not to understand. I'm in a new game, with a fresh, mostly open, rule-free stockpile zone, yet I can't haul a gun I got off a raider there. What's the deal?

Check pawn allowed area?

Unpause game. Draft all the pawns, undraft the pawn you want to haul, be sure to do this while game is running. If you run mods, well then another story but give the game a few seconds to run thru it's logic, then reattempt the haul job.

are you playing with mods ?

I just ran into this. It seems to be the 'Stockpile Stack Limit' mod, which I'd used to create 1x1 tile 1x item limits at drilling areas to mark them. Finally discovered the problem after messing with a Bunch of stockpile zones, then started building concrete floors with my 51 steel. It kept jumping back to 51 stored. Got it. That fiftyONE max storage made it clear.

I went around randomly either checking and unchecking steel on some 1x1 stockpiles, or removing and recreating others, removed the stack limits on all of them, and at least one of those things cleared up the confusion my colonists were feeling.

My only storage problems were Steel, Jade, and Plasteel. The things that I made the 1x stack limit zones for.

If I'd continued to build concrete floors 1x tile at a time and watched my colonists, the probably would have led me right to the stockpile that was bad, because it was the one they kept adding 1x steel back to in order to bring me up to 51x steel.

There seems to be more than one thing going on here. I saw some people say you had to allow rotten, but these bad storage zones I'm looking at have lost their Rotten option, only a Fresh check box remains. If you copy/paste the settings from one that has no Rotten check available, the pasted zone loses its Rotten box. It has to be recreated from scratch or copied from a good zone. I even ran across one that had no Rotten or Fresh present.

If you're using mods, there's one that allows you to designate exactly where you're hauling to that I get this with regularly. It happens after an item's been hauled if there's no stockpile for it to go in.

If you're not using mods, check to see if your stockpile allows tainted/looted items. Can't remember what the exact term is, but I think there's a tick right at the top of the list of things you can allow/forbid for that.

I don't mean to necro, but THIS is precisely the issue I just had and I had to just say 'thank you' for this.

I was trying to store Chemshine in a storage space, which was previously just an armory space, and didn't have "Allow Fresh" and "Allow Rotten" checked.

I was getting frustrated and came upon this thread. So thanks.

Any other suggestions for this while playing vanilla? Very frustrating. Need to move kibble and chocolate to different stockpile but it just won't let me. Won't let me store beer anywhere either so it's just sitting everywhere inside my house. I've tried everything.

Issues are usually:
- item not allowed in filter
- stockpiles have the same priority and both allow item
- filter has its health slider not on 0-100%
- filter has fresh/rotten unchecked
- storage zone is not accessible by pawns (zone restrictions/forbidden door etc.)
- storage is full/close to full with the last spots being currently reserved because someone is hauling

Can't think of anything else right now, but these are the things that have happened to me in the past. If you checked 100% of these, a screenshot with storage filters would help.

I appreciate the help. Yea these things are always part of my check list and I checked many forums so I think I might have run into a bug maybe. I don't know. You know what's weird though? To get them to start moving hay into my one zone I actually checked the fresh/rotten filter and turning it back on made them use the hay stockpile :\. The other ones aren't working though and I did make sure that all of these things are not creating issues. I don't get it.

Can you make a screenshot of the filter of the stockpile not working? If it's purely vanilla you might also just share the save, which would be pretty easy to check.

This is a bug I've run into A LOT over a couple years, in many games!

I long ago stopped taking screenies because then someone wants to claim it's mods even when I'm playing vanilla... As much As I want to carefully take screenshots it's pretty rare and usually ends with playing 20+ hours before it happens again, and since I don't take auto saves every 3 hours in game, it's just too much work to roll back and figure out when it happens and there's legit just no triggers for it as far as I ever found.

Basically it feels like a stockpile just gets "corrupted" and stops taking some items and it's just faster and easier to slash and burn.

Sometimes even with all perms set correct (and no other rooms set to allow) my hunters suddenly will begin leaving their hunted animals out in the sun. I often notice it belatedly and I actually had it happen to me again just today. I took the time to take all pertinant screenies years ago, nobody either believed it happens or demanded I do all the bug tracking work after hollering at me to "prove it!" so I just figured a quick fix and keep an eye out for running out of meat when I've been hunting, or similar stuff happening.

Since it tends to only hit one stockpile at a time, I just delete the whole stockpile, create a new one on top, then move on. Once I hit the mid-early game it's a non-issue since I probably have at least two freezers which allow non-rotten corpses or whatever my pawns suddenly refuse to haul due to some logic. In fact that's why I tend to have a freezer with a butchery room set back under different perms.

Ironically, in most other roguelike/lites, I can just make a quick copy of my save file, zip it and upload it and someone else can find it in the debug logs. Here, you get rabid stans.

You will meet enough people here with several thousand hours of gameplay which have never seen a bug like this with the stockpiles, but were always able to find out where the issue was. No idea why offering help to someone is seen as a negative. People make mistakes or repeat their own thoughts when trying to find out an issue. Letting someone else read over something you created is a default procedure in many fields

Ok so for me the solution was to make sure I didn't put wall/door blueprints around it immediately and leave fresh/rotten corpses enabled (don't need corpse storage enabled, just the fresh/rotten storage). Now my stock piles are working (and no I didn't have any doors forbidden in my last ones). So anyone having this issue, maybe try this as well. Also I was able to put walls and doors on after and it was still working after I did that, so I just can't put the blueprints on right away.
