The new Deep Drill Scanner, useless?
Can't find anything at all, my pawn just sat on the scanner for like 2 seconds and left like nothing happened, and there's no way to make my pawn focus on scanning minerals till they find something.
This seems like a huge nerf....now I'm hitting late game but ran out of steel to do anything, already considering installing some mods to make steel more accessible.

It's technically a buff. Instead of finding everything instantly, it takes time to discover things, but it will continue to discover things forever now, rather than be limited to a hard number. You need to set someone to the researching job.

Good to know, I'll disable my research lab for now and focus on scanning things and see what happens.

Did not know this. Thanks for the info. Steam gold for you!

How long does this take ?
My 17 skill researcher has spent 3 ingame days on the machine and nothing.

Do you get a message when they find something ?
Cormac Feb 27, 2020 @ 12:56am
yes, you get a message. the deep drill gives you a message on the right side, telling you what was found and gives you a jump to buttom, the long range scanner adds a quest plus the message.

and it is random, i got 1 target after 1 day, weeks passed without sucess, and than suddenly, i got 2 within a day.
RNG is still RNG, sadly

i just tested, the chance to get something is REALLY low.
So tbh I prefer the old scanner.... I was hitting late game with nearly everything researched but the lack of steel prevented me from building better defenses / weapons and I just got overwhelmed by the swarms of enemies.:cultleader:
BTW I chose to become enemy of the empire since I was sick of them asking for tributes so even less caravans, and there was no way for me to reverse it, not fun at all.
Since the reward for killing enemies is so little, you don't even get exp or money, plus the fact that enemies later on just ignore your maze of traps and mine their way into your base, it seems that the only way to win at this game is to be nice to everyone.

I hope the dev can increase the reward for successful defends, it'd increase the depth of the game, maybe make it so pawns can level up combat wise or make it so that you at least earn something by fending off attacks.

I know that players can just re-load when something goes bad, it's RNG after all, but it really isn't good game design, I've reloaded many times but got tired of it. The game feels comparable to factorial in game play wise but I feel the balance is way off.

you can build more than one deep scanner (each one rolles for itself), or you can pair it with a long range scanner, if you want to form a caravan with 2-3 good miner )and hopfully some pack animals).

the deep scanner gives you high amount low yield pockets (it takes a lot of work to extract it) while the long range scanner gives you access to a low amount (if you want to call 500-1500 steel low) high yield which requires you to form a caravan travel and carry it back to your base.
but 2 high level miner should be able to mine everything in 1-2 days, the biggest problem here is possible attacks while travaling and the amount you can carry

edit: and the long range scanner can pick what metal you want to look for, somewhat less RNG
