Vegetarian Fine Meals
Does anyone know of a simple mod that allows you to cook fine and lavish meals from vegetarian products only? I was thinking in the direction of needing one more type of veggie ingredient than the standard meat version of the meal. So you'd need one veggie type and one meat type for the normal version, or 3 veggie types for the veggie meal.

I know mods like vegetable garden exist, but they go way overboard for me and add WAY too much to the game, making a mess of its simplicity.

Why do you need meat to make fine or even lavish meals? Something like that seems a bit backward, in the 21st century where vegetarianism is on the rise? Speaking from a survival standpoint, it is much more efficient to make food from plants than from rearing animals. And historically speaking, it's only since the industrial revolution that people have begun to eat the large amounts of meat that they do today. People used to eat a lot less meat because it was more of a luxury product. So seems a huge mistake to me to make only 'simple' meals vegetarian...

And before everyone starts shouting angry stuff at me for being a vegetarian hippy or something, let me be clear that i am not a vegetarian and that in fact i LOVE meat, especially game. I love eating boar, deer, pheasant, and so on and also enjoy the more exotic stuff like kangaroo, zebra, and so on. I even like organ meat like liver, pate, chicken harts and so on... So no, DEFINETELY not vegetarian. But even then, i have had GREAT veggie meals that would definetely qualify as 'fine' or even 'lavish', and think they should at least be possible in a game like this...

I can't be the only one that has thought this right? So any SIMPLE mods out there? I can't seem to find them...

This mod would do it, it adds a soybean plant in growing zones that is listed as meat in the def files so it can replace meat in recipies
also adds Soy Milk, Tofu and a Tofu Press

or you can remove the meat requirement from meals in the core files

Thank you for adding that you're an omnivore, I was just gonna start ranting about vegetarians.

An alternative mod that can complement this issue is the Synthmeat mod. The mod allows you to plant it in growing zones after researching the tech.

Thats why i write lengthy texts instead of short messages. Some find it annoying, i find it keeps me from getting dragged in useless discussions about things that are completely besides the point...

But if you want a rant, go right ahead. I'm a firm believer in freedom of speech, no matter what side of the political spectrum you're from or how dumb or uninformed your comments might be. Not that i'm assuming yours would be ;)

Well installed the soy beans mod but then found you needed level 8 to plant them so they're pretty much useless anyway...

And if they don't replace meat, then there's no point at all. Maybe the tofu that you can make from it does replace meat?

And i will check out the fish industry mod, looks really cool. But meals with fish are not veggie... Fish are still animals, so it's not a replacement for me ;)

Thanks for the tip, but it also feels a bit besides the point like the fishing mod. Synth meat is still meat. Why cant you just make decent meals with a combo of veggies?

The very first line under "What does this mod do?" on the mod's page says it replaces meat, so I would guess it does do just that. Likely that was the exact reason the mod was made.

Like the soy beans, pity you need to be level 8 to be able to plant them... Means you can only use them with a green grower type or only very late in the game...

Even though i hate touching the core files, since i'm a complete computer dummy that way, it might be the only option left judging from the options offered until now... Are there really that few vegetarians playing rimworld? :D

Great. If they do replace meat, then that's an option. Still a pity you need level 8 to plant them...

Well i agree vegetarian meals can be great but i think in the game it is intended to force you to keep up the intake of meat in order to get the mood boost from the lavish meals in the end i dont blame you its is your playthrough but i think you just want to sit inside your base and live off of hydroponics

Lots of mods. I use both of these sometimes:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1185265132

Has lentils and mushrooms as protein options. Various sub mods to expand on it, including extra types of meals.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=725674293

Another basic one, just adds new mushrooms as protein, they grow in the dark.

I think they all require growing skill 8, that seems to be the agreed upon balance point. That's fairly easy to hit within a few days of starting if you have anyone decent at growing, but still leaves a period of progression where you start with basic meals and eventually move up to fine and lavish meals. The problem is once you get going you quickly move onto lavish meals because there's no real limit on crop growth. The mood boost from fine and lavish meals are balanced around the scarcity of the meat resource, so being able to just grow huge fields of it is completely broken.

fine and lavish meals are a luxury product that gives a mood boost
something you can do once you get from the stone age into industrial age where people start eating more meat and what was first considered a luxury product now becomes a standart meal
you can live of of simple meals forever just like pre industrial people did

also, vegetable garden mod has a soy option too
and it doesnt even give the wimp trait after excessive consumption

also, how do you plan to have a vegetarian colony with nobody that is good at growing plants?
they are quite essential for vegeterian meals
below skill 10 doesnt degrade so eventually your grower should reach skill 8
will take some time, probably as long as it takes you to pass the industrial age where fine meals with meat are standart and into the information age where people can fuss about soy because they have nothing better to do
Zales Apr 10, 2018 @ 2:12pm
I can see that people have suggested mods, so I am just going to clear up why Simple Meals are the only ones that can be vegetarian.

You only need 1 ingredient of any kind to make a simple meal. Like in real life rice would be a simple meal.
