Clean then cook mod?
Anyone know of a mod that will make your cook/cooks clean the kitchen before they cook. Getting tired of them poisoning the food cause they track in dirt/debris into the kitchen every time they leave and re-enter.

At this point im thinking of making a single zone for the cook, have cleaning #1 priority before they cook so that way they will clean before they cook. Would have to be a really small area though to keep them from cleaning the entire base before cooking.

Make a larger kitchen and use sterile tiles. A few bits of dirt on the floor wont matter. Room cleanliness is the average of all tiles in the room, and it needs to be below -2 to have any effect on food poisoning chance, and at -5 it's only a 0.05 increase.

You can also avoid them tracking dirt into the kitchen by making paths around your base. Colonists pick up dirt by walking on it, then drop it off fairly quickly once they step onto flooring. If most of the places they walk on in your base are floored, there's very little chance dirt will get into the kitchen.

If you don't want to bother with any of that, grab the Floor Mat mod and place one outside all the doors into the kitchen.

Actually I didnt know having a larger kitchen helps spread it out. I made the kitchen area as small as possible to restrict the amount of work going on or around it so there wouldnt be as much dirt. I guess that explains why I get food poisoning so often.

One important thing for kitchen cleanliness is to make your kitchen a dead-end. i.e. no-one should ever walk through the kitchen, or even enter it on anything other than kitchen business.
This, plus having the room/passage directly outside the kitchen door also be a cleaned area, makes for a very clean kitchen. Kitchen door should never open to dirt floor or *gasp* outdoors!

Yep, I tried to do something like that by having the kitchen be attached to a sort of triple airlock. One door leads to the common area/path outside, the middle door leads to the very small kitchen area and the last door leads into the freezer. I figured if my pawns did path into the freezer, they wouldnt dirty the kitchen as much as if they walked through it to get to the food.

Side note; I highly recommend the mod 4:3 suggested, it feels like it should have been a part of the game to be honest. Basically saves you from ever having to micro-manage cleaning.

carpet mod help you make dirt and trash focused on one spot for easier cleaning.

^--- This.

But, even knowing this I always end up building kitchens with their own access to the 'fridge... What it should be is:

Fridge
{}
{airlock}
{}
{}= Kitchen
{}
Other

Or something similar.

The same sort of strategy applies to a Medical area. Any area that needs to really be kept clean should not be a "pass-thru" area to frequently accessed areas of the base/outside.

I use this as well. It's really great and not too overpowered, since it only removes 1 filth from pawns when they step on it and still has to be cleaned. It can accumulate a lot of filth, too, and those negatives stack up when they're not removed. Great mod, pretty balanced, but does make it much easier for cleaning pawns to keep a base clean.

think about recruiting useless pawns for merging stacks, cleaning and hauling. It might seem like half the time they have nothing to do but that just means that they have everything hauled and cleaned so them saying nothing to do is actually telling you your items are hauled. Your home area is clean!

I tend to add a prison just behind my medical area, since prisonners will often need care the day they get in and afterwards the day their blood is replenished... ;)

As far as I know and even have experienced in the game, sterile (silver) floortiles get cleaned by pawns asap.
