"Incapable of Violence" work around ideas?
I've been trying to figure out how to use mods that grant tools with work buffs with pawns that are incapable of violence. Like, I can't equip a wrench, even though all I want to use it for is wrenching and not clunking.

I saw pre-1.0, there were tool mods that made tools for belt-slots, which seemed like a neat workaround, but it seems all the current mods are weapon slot only.

I am about to dive into EDITABLE BACKSTORIES mod, and manually tweak out all the incapable of violences, and probably try to add in some debuff that doesn't deviate from the intent, but I was wondering if y'all had other, cleaner work-arounds to this issue? BESIDES "Don't pick colonists with "incapable of violence.""

Thx

Naaaaahhh.

Have some fun with it. Do it old school. Open the save file with a text editor and remove the "pacifist" trait from your pawns. :)

(yes, make a backup first!)

don't personally play with any weapon/tool mod but what I do is either assign them to kitchen duty or med duty (depending on what they suck less in, or have at least one flame of interest in), make sure they can only butcher if on low quality cooking or patch up/animals if going for their med's stats (yes, using a mod for that... will get back to you about the name)

Apart from that, they're my resident cleaner and maybe hauler.
A lot of times by the time I actually need them, they're really helpful
If pawns are hurt in raid, non-aggro pawn restricted inside with prio 1 medical... anyone getting rescued will get prio 1 med attention from this guy OR while the rest of the colony is off messing with that poison ship or whatever, there's still somone back home making sure they have a hot meal to come home to!!
Needs a bit of micro, but can be totally worth it.

edit: work tab is the mod I'm using to tweak my pawns' priorities

how about turning them into nice comfy armchair?

im not trying to find what to do with my pacifists, im trying to make it where a tool mod is not an effective nerf to an already awful thing. As in, it buffs violence capable pawns, where the intent is to buff non-violent work.

i also think I understand the developer intent of pacifists, and don't want to remove them outright.

Exactly. Chair is good. Make them "support the community"

Sounds like the only real option is to talk with the modder and find out if there's a way to have the tools not take a weapon-slot.
*equips wrench to stomach* :-p

I haven't tried it, but looking through it, you get a mood debuff for equipping to weapon slot on a violent incapable pawn. Again, I wan't a wrenching wrencher, not a weeping wrencher

I understand what you're trying to do.

But, just remember that pacifist "Non-violent" pawns are in the game as a difficulty/hurdle the player has to deal with.

I "arm" all mine with Personal Shields. They make great mobile defensive installations... That guy on the SWAT Team that's holding a giant metal riot shield? That's one of my "Pacifist" pawns. :) (It also protect them when they're responding to Downed colonists if I allow them to do that during combat. "MEDIC!")

"Hey Gary, some guys came over, and.....errr.....they wanna play volleyball. Could you come over here and man this volleyball shooter for us?"

"Uhh, this thing kinda looks like a mortar. And the volleyballs are metal. And also not round----"

"Yeah, these guys are pro-league. They play tough. Send the volleyballs fast--believe me, they'll give you a run for their money."

"Okie dokie. I never played volleyball before, This is gonna be fun!"

"Oh yes........a whole lotta fun.........heheheh."

"Zero zero serving!"

FOOMP..........................BLAM!!!

"Great serve, Gary! One zip!"

"I'm pretty good at this game. Here comes the next one! SERVING!"

Is it possible to disable the mood debuff, if you dig into the files? I guess it’s better than disabling incapable of violence on all traits.

There's a mod that diables the "inability to do X" and replaces it with a stacking mood debuff for every day/hour they're forced to do work they hate. It mitigates your problem in that you won't ever have colonists that can't do certain stuff at a serious increase in risk that they'll burn your colony down if you forget they actually hate to do cleaning/fighting.....

Tried this mod twice myself and had some bad experiences with it causing me to switch back to them being just unable to do stuff and giving them support roles in my colony:

Had a guy with the nightowl trait but hated to do cleaning go on a luciferum binge right next to my stockpile of it whilst he was cleaning said storeroom.
Had a non-violent pawn shoot a missle straight into my (filled) dining room because I forgot to disarm him after a big raid.
