Can I give pets prosthetic limbs?
Crystal the tame timber wolf bravely fought to defend her master from a raging thrumbo while the whole colony peppered the unrelenting beast with arrows.

They managed to kill it just in time, but poor brave Crystal paid a heavy price: Loosing a front leg and her tail.

I noticed you can do surgery to give humans peg legs, but that doesn't seem to work for maimed pets - is that possible if I research more? Or is there a good mod for this?

Poor brave Crystal is a hero and really deserves this :-)

You need to do some research before creating and using the Workbench designed to create animal prosthetic limbs.

Good luck with Crystal's surgery!

Peglegs seem to work right of the batch, for now.

I sure hope so - it will have to wait until I get a better doctor than 4 skill, I guess :-)
But I wanted to get the option to prepare for it.

Let us know what happened

For now, she's pretty mobile again with her new pegleg while I try to find a doctor to replace it with a real prosthetic... but none willing to join show up.

I have a pretty good doctor imprisoned, but the tale of brave Crystal just won't sway her heart enough to join me and help her.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to shift all of my hauling jobs to specially trained foxes & boars. The first of these new carrier-pigs, lovingly called "Wild Boar 1" by my colonists unfortunately was cruelly maimed in a raid: They cut of three of it's hooves.

So this brave boar who can do nothing but lie around in the colony's living space will have the privilege to be granted another chance at mobilty as soon as the pet prosthetics research is completed - it has nothing much to loose and my skill 5 quack specialist for unorthodox medicine will be able to do an almost somewhat ethical test-run to prove his qualification before being allowed to operate on Crystal.

prosthetics and bionics are pretty expensive to buy btw, so have a good amount of silver saved up for em.

Hints:
- Installing peg legs is a great practice. You can practice on downed wild animals or a livestock you want to butcher anyways. And then euthanase them - it also gives nice xp.
- Use at least normal medicine when operating if you want to succeed without level 20 medic (for practice on expendable animals use herbal meds still, fail gives you as much xp anyways).

Animal ones are much cheaper.
