Rotary engines?
So, did some digging into this game, to see if I want to jump in or not. Kinda on the fence. What I want to know, is there or will there be rotary engine options? I'm a big rotary fan and would love to take them on and make a whole family of rotary powered cars like Mazda did in the 70's and 80's.

The developers are considering doing rotaries as a DLC later. Considering the small team size, they have to prioritize other things. I'd also like to do a Mazda/NSU thing, so I share your interest.

That's good to hear. Thanks for the info.

Heyya! Please have a look at the discussion presented in this video :) that should give you some insights into plenty of topics like these (timestamps in description):

I would seriously consider buying if they add rotaries.

It'd be kind of a piss-off to have to pay for DLC in order to add a type of motor. It should be included in the game.

+1 to ROTARY

Didn't know there were that many Mazda Wankel fans out there honestly. Those things are a fundamentally flawed design. Buying second-hand RX8's or any other car with a Wankel you are 90% likely going to need a new motor within 60k miles and should be asking about warranty before even considering the purchase. I guess they would be fun to play with in this game considering you can play with it and not spend thousands on new motors all the time, but I'd rather see the Tycoon section of the game working first.

As a Wankle owner and part of a Rotary engine car club, I can tell you that you are full of crap. If taken car of properly they can be reliable. I have almost 60K on my 09 RX8. Pers like a kitten. We have a few guys nearing 200K on first engine. The first couple years of the new 13B-MSP in the 8 had some issue. The sorted them and by 09, had a updated version with many updates and changes. Older versions of the engine in the RX7's also have been proven to last a long time, if taken care of. Main couple points; frequent oil changes and rev the piss out of the engine. They don't like highway cruising or being babied. Outside that, don't get to crazyt with the boost. NA engines will last a long time, boosted can be more problimatic depending on what has been done.

Basically, you average non rotary nut will kill one pretty easily. The reason so many people have had issues is many owners are not really aware of what they are buying. It's not a normal piston engine. You can not treat it like a normal piston engine.

Don't buy from a dealer. Buy from a rotard like myself andf get a compression test. Like any other car, make sure the documents are in order. Love it, change the oil, premix is not a bad idea, remove the cat, replace plugs every 15K miles, coils about 25-30K.

Not full of crap and won't argue, them things were replaced so often Mazda gave up on selling them. They are just much more complex when it comes to sealing them and they lose compression all the time. Dealership where I live has guys who are tired of rebuilding motors for almost every RX-7 and RX-8 they sold every few years. Also some guys do not enjoy pouring in oil every time you fill up, I think emissions is one of the reasons Mazda has given up on Wankels for now but the warranty costs are probably the main motivation. I did hear how you have to keep those engines revved hard all the time to keep them healthy, something about the injectors. Still not realistic for normal driving, if you have to drive a certain way just to prevent premature engine failure it's a flawed design, or at the very least an unstable one. And again, not arguing it. Butting out now since it's not worth talking about, people that are nuts over Rotary Engines are happy with them and that does not bug me in the least. I'm just simply stating my experience and the experiences of those I know.

You are full of crap. The majority of failures in the motor are traced back to the owner's poor maintenance practices. The only vehicle that had issues from the factory was the FD-3S RX7 that had overheating issues due to limited cooling system.

The main reason why Mazda stepped away from rotaries is due to emissions. It's difficult to build a rotary engine that will meet the stringent economy and air quality requirements. The motors are very durable and stout so long as you take care of them.

It's not the motor's fault that idiots flood them, put the wrong oil in, don't put oil in at all, or keep up with the maintenance that the motor requires. They lose compression as a result of neglect. Not because of some "inherent flaw" as you suppose.

Your dealership is full of rubes that get fooled into thinking it's the motor when in actuallity the end user was too stupid to keep the damn thing running. It's like buying an exotic pet and wondering why it died because you didn't give it the care it requires.

It is either that, or no Rotaries. We are not a charity. We estimate adding any new engine type (e.g. Rotaries, Diesels etc), would take about 2.5 people 4-6 months to do. Not including the many free hours from testers to hone in our model to real life. Our entire team is about 5 full time people. We need to be paid. A major piece of content that is outside of the original proposed content list has to pay for itself.

Ok, and watch nobody buy it. That will sure be time well wasted, making that.

Based on how many Wankel and Diesel automation fans out there... I guess it will be the exact opposite if they release an additional engine packs DLC(Including Diesel and Wankel engines)
I personally don't have problem with wankel and diesel engines in the core game, but I personally think it would simply take away time from more important features.
By the way, the only reason the devs even thinking about releasing it as a DLC is because many people cried for it for a really long time.
