I know SQUAT about vehicles
Will i enjoy this? By that i mean, will i be able to understand it, the terminology, and perhaps the way things 'work' or will this be more a steep learning experience which will take 100hrs to finally grasp? >.>

Will you be able to understand it? That depends on how ready you are to learn. The in-game tutorials are some of the simplest explinations of how cars work I've ever seen, and at the same time they are exhaustive, covering every aspect of the car building process. It shouldn't take 100 hours to learn the basics... but it'll probably take 5-10 to start grasping them if you have absolutely no understanding of how cars work.

Will you enjoy it? That depends on if you have "the knack."

You will learn squat about vehicles by playing this game, if you are so inclined. Move a slider, see what happens. Read tooltips and tutorials, do some scenarios, design your own stuff from there. I think most people around here (myself included) actually started with little or no working knowledge of engines and such before playing this.

As somebody who has learned about cars since I was about 5 years old, I have to strongly disagree with you. There is a lot to learn about how cars are designed from this game.

I'd say the enginge designer is a perfect example of edutainment. While it obviously won't cover all the details, it nevertheless gives you a comprehensive overview of the basics.

I started this game with little understanding of cars.
But it took a few hours (1-3 hours) to understand it perfectly, but it really worth it! I owned this game before the steam release and back then the tutorials were a bit worse but not that much.
Reading tooltips & watching the tutorial videos usually helps a lot!

Edit1 : Just fixed something.

I had a basic understanding of how cars and engine works before I played the game, I've learned A LOT since then, thanks to the game.

I knew at most how to change an air filter and spark plugs on my vehicle along with the oil (Nissan D21) before I got this game. Now I'm far into vehicles. But I do that with various subjects, in a few years I went from a guy who only knew how to barely shoot guns to someone who can repair majorly damaged firearms and re-blue them. When I was 10 I built my first PC after a few years of dragging trashed computers to the basement and slapping stuff together until I got one to run and now I built at least 50 PC's the past 5 years for family friends and customers and am using a PC with 4 HDD hot-swap bays and switch between Linux and Win7 as I please for various tasks. I nerded out the same way with vehicles in this game, in is a great learning tool. So is a Chilton's manual for whatever you drive, as long as it isn't something major like a full blown transmission replacement grab a book/manul to walk you through fixing it yourself. This game just let's you visualize how stuff works together a bit more easily than someone just telling you.
