If you fit neither of those categories, I'd say you may want to wait a year or so and see how you feel about a more finished game.
@Zebonka - Fair enough, but do remember the end goal is a Tycoon Game, so it's more like Transport Tycoon where you can't drive your trains ;)
We'd love to do a driving sim, but it's a bit out of reach for a small team like us. We're going to look into making an exporter to save your car out to other race sims eventually though.
Automation doesn't have the business simulation side of the game yet, but the car design part of Automation is far more in depth than Gear City.
Well that's your decision if it's worth it to your or not. There are thousands of people who enjoy it in its current state, and there are also lots of people waiting for it it to be more complete before they get it. I understand both points of view
it does seem odd to call it a tycoon and leave the driving aspect out. games like Roller Coaster tycoon and the many other tycoon games allow you to ride the roller coasters you design, etc.
this is why i like games like Car Mechanic Simulator 2014 and 2015 where you work on cars and at least able to test drive them. doesn't have to be like Project CARS or Assetto Corsa, but at least a way to hop in and go for a spin. would of been an instant purchase for me, but i'll keep an eye out in case devs change their mind later on.. maybe modding community can help create the tracks (or is that the easy part)?
cheers.
worth the money.. well i think it depends on who you are, as the first developer writes, i've played tycoon games since transport tycoon, back in the mid 90's (and actually still do)
i dont own the Automation yet, just waiting for the price to drop a bit (but thats just me :D)
i especially like the tycoon part of games, running a major company, and the more aspects of a game, i can have influence on, or decide myself, just makes the games that more fun for me.
if a game is worth the money, for me at least, comes down to the ability to replay a game, play different ways, doing things differently..
anoter "tycoon" like game is Prison Architect. that game takes the "tycoon" part to high lvls as you control every aspect of the game, except the prisoners themself
No.
Allow me to elaborate on this. The project "Automation" as a whole, is unique.
No game has come up with a car/engine designer as detailed as Automation and then combining the design parts with a tycoon game. As it has been pointed out, the tycoon part is still in the making though.
What does that mean?
For the casual gamer, who wants to be entertained for a few hours before moving on to the next game, it might involve some disappointment. As it does for those who are not familiar with the term "Early Access".
People who love cars, who have a true passion for games and how they are made and developed however, will already see a dream come true with Automation.
You will find that you can already make cars with a unique design or you rebuild the car you've always wanted to own.
You may find yourself inspired to come up with an ongoing story to your own car company.
The game has already inspired many players to design fixtures for cars, car models and calculations for racetracks.
We, the community, have held countless competitions to build cars matching a certain set of rules, from a certain legendary era, to find out who can make the best, most interesting and unique car.
And above all that, the developers united their passion for cars and making games and they allow you to be a part of it, if you're interested.
They stream the progress of making Automation regularly on Twitch/Youtube and are always interested in the input of the community, which has shaped the game to what is is now already: A true gem among the long list on independent games.
If you are someone who appreciates building engines then yes, if you are looking for the tycoon aspect of the game I would have to say No.
The tycoon side of things is still far off, and this team is slow with their work schedule so we may or may not see it until the end of this year or sometime into next year.
