Racing in campaign?
I, personally, think that the main campaign is kind of boring. Make a car that fits the requirements, it sells, you make money, that's it. I feel like it would be better, if you could enter your company into a Motorsport. This would be things like F1, Rally, and other things. You wouldn't have to be able to see the race happen, you would just have a set of rules to make the car, and then you would try and tune the car to be the best performing in that race. It would be like trying to make a car to fit a certain class in the base game, but for racing. Then you would later get the results that that car got in the racing series, and it might boost the amount of people who want to buy from your company. This would be exciting because it might also open up things like sponsorships and company rivalries in different countries.

Not to forget homologation for street car classes like rallye, GT or touring car. Before you can enter competition you actually have to sell amount X to road traffic.

Prolly cuz for a tycoon game the devs have spent a lot of time building a game that has nothing to do with the tycoon part. Gearcity did a better job in half the time with 1 dude devloping it. Yes, the car designer is pretty, and the all the tuning is kinda fun. but.....Tycoon game? it's just a framework of a plan that's a lot of missing and dead ends.

I think you got a great idea just not the racing part. Maybe instead a system that would mimic real life automotive conventions/magazines/websites etc that do the same thing. Having scoring metrics (that technically already exist in-game) that differ from the normal categories for sales, for different "classes" just like MotorTrend uses for example, and if you place high on those tests/trials/magazine cover etc you get a temporary boost in sales.
