Regardless, make sure you verify your Automation installation; in your Steam library, right-click on Automation and go to Properties. Go to Installed Files and press the "Verify integrity of game files" button and let that process run to completion. Once that's done, run Automation, but instead of launching the game, go into the Troubleshooting Tool. Press "Clear Cache" and then launch Automation from there.
It might not fix your issue, but it will go a long way to reducing the number of things that might be causing this.
Oh, you're on a Mac? Shadows are specifically a known issue with the Mac build currently. Keep it on low and you'll be fine.
