Automation - The Car Company Tycoon Game

Accuracy of real-life engines in this game.
I've noticed a high level of accuracy so far in building engines. I made as close to an exact replica to my truck's V8 Hemi with factory specs and it came very close to the real life performance specs. It was only a few horsepower shy and a few tenths of a second faster on 0-60 than real life. Anyone else have results of replicating real engines?

I made a pretty exact replica of the BMW M20B25 a couple years ago. Takes a bit of tweaking sometimes, but it's surprising how close you can get.

I've also made a tuned replica of FoMoCo's GT-spec Ecoboost V6; While i've nailed the specs to the milimeter, it pumped like 100 HP more over the original thanks to some custom cams, titanium rods, larger turbos and F1-style exhaust manifolds. That speaks volumes about the game's accuracy in those areas......

It's been a long time since I actually did this, but as I recall all the engines I tried making came quite close to reality within a few hp or ft-lbs.

The game had extensive testing against real life engines in earlier betas.. I know one of the troubles they faced was if you make the engine designer more flexible (like allowing larger variation of bore & stroke) the accuracy starts to suffer when comparing to real life engines, so all in all I think they found a good balance between realism & flexibility.

Yeah, it's reasonably accurate for non turbo engines (usually about 95%), but turbo engines still need a lot of work.

There are also a lot of details of intake manifold & port design that we don't simulate, but will in future updates, making it easier to make lower revving torqueier engines etc.

I made my 2007 Mustang Gt engine in here and it was really close in terms of HP but the torque was a bit lower.

its been 7 years and engines still blow up with 6 psi of boost. unrealistic with forced induction applications.

in the early days before Automation hit steam, the Devs asked the community to gather as much real world engine data as humanly possible and essentially built the simulation around that data, so yes the engine simulation in this game is top notch

You guys just have to be willing to run lower boost or smaller turbo's. you should not be blowing up if properly tuned.

That being said, I particularly enjoy replicating factory vehicles. i have several vehicle lines that closely resemble real life counterparts in weight, wheel base, power/tq etc. I find making those more rewarding than the 1000+hp monster engines.

Closest I've replicated was the Chrysler 2.2L four banger.

We had the same idea. I made up a scenario for wanting to recreate the Chrysler 2.2:
Chrysler approaches Mitsubishi and wants to compete in global rally racing. They provide their Chrysler 2.2L and Mitsubishi provides them their Lancer/Mirage platform. Dodge is tasked with turbocharging and tuning the 2.2L and the platform to eventually sell enough of the homologation special to achieve their goal of competing with other manufacturers.
Not the most original scenario, but since Mitsubishi/Mercedes-Benz/Chrysler were sharing parts, engines, platforms, etc. I liked the idea of Dodge selling their own take on the Lan Evo.

Dodge selling Mitsubishis is not the newest invention anyways. Happend I think 1971 for the first time with the Dodge Colt, Chrysler's answer to the sudden interest of competitors GM (Chevy Vega), Ford (Pinto) and AMC (Gremlin) in subcompacts.
The last clearly badge engineered was the Eagle Talon dropped with the whole brand by Chrysler in 1998 and a rebadged Mitsubishi Eclipse. However, some cars (Mitsubishi Galant, Chrysler Sebring) would still use commonly developed underpinnings under different bodies.

And as DaimlerChrysler and Mitsubishi had a cooperation for commercial vehicles, which led to the first purchase of a still minority share in Fuso by Mercedes Trucks in 2003, I'd say your idea is an alternative reality not so far off our world as it might seem on first glimpse.

im utilizing automation and beamNG to build and test the possibilities of my 2000 AWD astro van. fully upgraded headers, straight pipe exhaust and improved race cam with carb. using the simulations has been a great tool for pushing limits and learning driving nuances like having a cheat sheet. it makes me wonder the kinds of official software race teams must put to work for simulating and testing vehicles

see, my only problem is that, no yet at least, theres no option for 3 valve setups or stuff like that

Three-valve heads are in the game already.

Though there are limited tuning options which really prevents the making of certain engines.
