Import car designs into campaign?
Can you import your past car designs into a new campaign (if you have the parts unlocked)? Like say, since the 4.2 patch notes mentions campaigns arent compatible, but car saves are compatible..
Would one be able to import the cars as a new project in the new campaign, and just tweak any missing parts / unresearched stuff?

No.

No, this is something I asked about early last year and was told they had no plans to do it. Guessing some issue with game mechanics, but I would love that feature so you don't have to keep making the same car designs over again every campaign. To me this would be a game changing feature!

The way tech levels can differ from even different 1946 campaign starts would complicate importing a design as a new project for R&D and tooling even before unpausing the start year I think.

I agree that for campaign an import feature would be great for completed designs (if you have the tech year for the body model as that is the first selection) or even partial car design that is missing whatever tech is not unlocked yet and needs player input to complete substitutions for the missing technology.

It's not necessary for the campaign at all but it would be a big time saver in campaigns.

Something that in my ignorance at least seems less ambitious as it wouldn't involve car and engine technology unlocks would be a fixtures import/export that can be imported to a specific body model. I find I either completely neglect fixtures and paint to finish the design quicker or spend an inordinate amount of time on them. If I could export and import fixtures to a body model, I could save fixtures exports for the car bodies I tend to use in campaigns.

EDIT: I didn't check in game beforehand yet to see if the last suggestion about exporting and importing fixtures is already included before I posted so my apologies if it is.

An easy way to get around the tech level issue would be to make it so that you can only import the design if all prerequesite techs are met... and if not you can't load it.

That way you can replicate the similar campaign playthroughs again.

But for vastly differing playthroughs you would have to create new designs, which would make sense anyway if you are completely diverting from your research approach.

But that said, I would also like the feature. Because it can be rather exhausting to do everything all over from scratch if you decide to start over half way through the campaign. Or worse, if some update breaks the campaign.

Well, and here I was hoping I was missing a detail why I couldn’t import a car into my campaign.

What happened was I ruined my production because I thought I could add a factory building to an existing factory and produce two different cars in one factory.

I didn’t make a save after I finished designing my car which took me 90 minutes, but I could export it.

I tried to export the new car in my backup save which was right before I made it.
Now I have to do it all over again…

I don’t really see the import/export feature as useful if I can’t use (and reuse) them in my games.
I think there should be an "import fixtures" button, which would allow you to import fixtures from a car onto another car, as long as they're based on the same baseline body. As they're not tech-dependent, this should be doable from anything to anything. I don't mind some screwyness with morphs, this can be fixed by hand, and would be no worse than when you change body variants or morph with fixtures already on.
