Automation - The Car Company Tycoon Game

No engine at all can fit
Both Mid engine positions in the 89 coupe can barely fit any engine, even the boxer 4 engine with the lowest setting can barely fit in the car. What's the point of having a mid engine option in that body if barely any engines can fit in it.

This is what I don't get about this game. Countless car bodies offer mid / rear engines in both transverse and longitudinal configs, yet no engine fits, no matter what you do to the car. It especially doesn't make any sense how some huge cars have mid and rear configs that can only fit small inline 3s, so even if you get an engine to fit it won't be able to move the car.

I really don't see why so many cars have useless engine configs.

Yeah, pretty accurate what Vader is saying, just report them, otherwise they will remain broken. In many cases it is user error too though: you using suspension types that encroach on an already tight engine bay. Try to use struts instead of double wishbone to see if it fits then.

It is a struggle though: should we remove options where some small engines would fit? It sure would streamline things more, but it also kills your options.

Basically it was because a bunch of people wanted more bodies to have mid/rear engine options, so we enabled a bunch more, knowing they'd only fit pretty tiny engines but, ya know, that's how the bodies are.

We can always turn them off again though, and I think there are quite a few that should be turned off as they're not useful.

For a lot of cars, especially smaller ones, you're pretty heavily restricted on what you can actually put in.

In my opinion that's a good thing.

When in doubt, try putting in an Inline 3 300 CC engine. If that won't fit in either orientation, it's a bug. If it does fit, it's fine (in my opinion).

Please do. Sometimes the only engine you can fit is way too small to be of any sort of realistic use.

I was hoping to make more room for mid and rear mounted engines. by completely removing the second row of seats in many of these models that don't traditionally have mid or rear mounted engines,

While the option of removing passenger seating exists, it doesn't seem to free up any space.

Correct, it can only convert between cargo space and passenger space, but it doesn't affect the firewall. That is something that we have in our distant future Automation 2 bucket :)
