Automation - The Car Company Tycoon Game

1 and 2 cylinder engines
It would be fun to make tiny cars with 1 and 2 cylinder engines. Anyone agree?

Have a look at the FAQ for which engine types are being considered :)

Single cylinders have been irrelevant in the automobile industry for the past 110 years. 2 cylinders (V or inline) would be nice though as they were used in some cars such as the trabant.

Not only Trabant - also many Citroen models starting with the first 2 CV around the same time as the game through its derivates Dyane and Ami to the Visa built far into the 80es. With Panhard there is another French builder who used flat 2 for their cars in the 50es.

Don't forget that the King Midget (an American microcar powered by a 9 hp single cylinder engine) was in production from 1946 until the 1970s.

First it is a kit car and second would probably qualify as a kei car as well. Although I don't get it why no kei cars are supported by the game - basically they are small chassis with small engines. At least for the later (70es on) kei rules there are actually bodies that only fail to meet kei rules by length, you could make a valid engine for them and all what fails is some cm in width of that body.

now that we can add balancing weight you could use a twin.
seems better from testing to throw nicer parts at a smaller engine with less cylinders

Also a V4 engine should be a good addon

Indeed, during the 60es and 70es Ford and Saab were mostly based on V4 engines. Very compact as well, quite a lot of displacement for the overall dimensions.

Killrob would need to reconfirm but the only new engine types we MIGHT see are B2, I2, I8 and V4 engines. If I recall correctly they said they had the raw sound files for those engine types. Hopefully not in a DLC but if so then hopefully not more than a few dollars. I'm kinda getting sick of seeing minimal content sold for unreasonable amounts of money.

No, no diesels or rotaries or whatever. Stop asking for those. Every time somebody asks for those the next update gets pushed back by a week. People seriously need to learn to use the search function...

Also nearly a five year old necro-post but whatever I guess. Blame the TF2 engineer.

I want a one cylinder engine so I can make go karts and other things like lawnmowers
and I want steam engines so I can make paddle boats
Well, there were steam cars at one point. That said, the Stanley Steamer is unlikely to be on the devs' radar...

V4s and straight eights would be quite useful, though. I hope we'll get a two stroke engine as a DLC option someday, but that's probably quite far off.
I was joking about the steam engines, but they were indeed a real thing back in the early 1900's
