MacPherson in the rear?
Sometimes I'm not very original, so I decided to bring a "not-a-911" into BeamNG for personal use. Found that 1975 Coupe 2.2m wheelbase body, chose the materials and the engine placement, then proceeded to choose suspensions. I seem only to be able to put DWB in the front and MacPherson struts in the rear... What gives? It should be the other way around.

Granted, the end result drives nicely in the sim with both suspensions being double wishbone for now, yet I still want to make it into a classical 911-esque car.

For some specific bodies, MacPhersons front suspension is disabled since that suspension layout is so tall that you end up with the chassis clipping through the body.

Then it appears to me that's something that needs to be revised by the devs?

It would require making the suspension geometry variable. This would be nice, but unlikely to happen.

Of course, perhaps they could just add "short mcpherson struts" as an option. But id much rather see J arm suspension and torsion bar trailing arms added to the game first.

Isn't a shorter MacPherson much easier to implement?

It would look and handle wrong for everything else then. Mcpherson struts are generally very tall, because it gives the best geometry. A shorter strut means less range of motion where the wheel is at an acceptable camber.

Something like the 911 will get away with it by having very little suspension travel. If you used the same strut on a family hatchback with twice the suspension travel, it would be lethal.

I guess I wasn't clear enough... I meant making a separate short MacPherson strut, not replacing the already existing one with it.
So, on the bodies with less height the short version would be offered, on the bulkier ones -- the full lenth one.

That would work. But, since several common suspension types havn't been implemented at all yet, I doubt it will be a priority for them.

Of course, now beamNG compatibility is required, this makes changing the suspension even more work.

Speaking of which... I wonder if we'll be able to see any other converter plugins. I'm particularly interested in an Automobilista one.
