Best company/model/trim/engine naming/labelling system (ideas)
Hi guys, I am curious to see how you name/label your car models/trims/engines and company. Feel free to post these details here.

The reason why I made this topic is to get new ideas of labeling what I produce in Automation. I am greatly inspired by Mercedes-Benz labelling system as well as BMW's and my car company is a mix of them both, however, I seem to never be satisfied enough and I endlessly rename them.

What I usually do is:
1. Put my company's name first: DMD (Dondalla Motors Design)
2. Followed by a fancy car name: Apache
3. For the trim:
a. I use the first leter of the car name: A (Apache)
b. Engine size minus a zero (eg. 3000cc = 300)
c. Trim year (Y) minus first two numbers (eg. Y1982 = Y82)
4. For the engine name I use, its type, capacity and year: V12-3.0L-Y82
5. For the engine variant I use HP/NM: 400/450

So the full name ends up like this:

DmD Apache - A300 Y82 - V12-3.0L-Y82 - 400/450

For other trims and engine variants I used other numbers accordingly:

DmD Apache - A500 S Y84 - V8-4.0L-Y84 - 600/555

Note that the above "S" stands for sport version

Does this look fancy? Is it too technical? Is it stupid?

What else I tried is to use less numbers (imagining the example above)

DmD Apache - Devil 999 - MONSTER 12 - Speedster Edition

For different trims, I used different names, for different engine variants, I used other different names and so on.

What is your labeling system, guys?

Your system is very neat imo :)

My labeling is like this.

1: Is pretty much the same but the rest is a bit different.

3: Here I put your nm 2 and after that the engine size in either cc or ci (depends if i'm creating a muscle car or not)
Sometimes I make tuned versions of existing cars and no, not like sport models. Theese trims are not influenced from TRD, AMG etc. rather more Mugen, APR kind of style.
(Fillan F16 SoGar)

4: Here I use the car name or company name, displacement, block type, head type and material (Fillan 1.6 I4 SOHC VVL AlSi)

5: Here I'm farily basic with the labeling, sport, eco, race, turbo etc.

Point 4 is very interesting for me. Great idea and it sounds very nice.

I had a time when I used to search for italian names/words that can represent the car, like "dangerous" to "pericoloso" for a V10 sports car.

Do you use names that have a meaning or names that just sound nice?

Both tbh, It might be a dangerous car and since it's italian it sounds nice aswell :3

I have no good system for cars, but I use for engines

eg 1840 FV6 Turbo

2018, 4.0 litres. V6 (turbo)

"F" would e from my list of manufacturers, first letter here Folgore (Ferrari)

P.S I now replace decade with a letter logically would be "A8" for 2018 but since we only live a couple more decades I go for E8, simply because it looks nicest and allows me too retain the old lettering for 20th century, where I already did a lot.

That's nice, the year system is well thought

I start the name with a R (for Rondini, of course), then a letter for the type of viechle (U-utility, D-delivery, P-people's car, L-luxury, and so on), followed by the engine capacity of the first trim i make in liters x10 (or x100 for "U" cars). Ex: RD-25, RP-18, RU-450, RL-30.
In the trim i just put a name describing it's intended market or a fancy name for luxury cars (usually boat types, like "yacht" or "sailer").
For the engine family i place the numbers in the following order: max bore, max capacity in liters, number of cilinders, engine arrengement and head type: P, DA, SO(2,3,4), DO(2,4,5). Ex: 91.05.78VP or 84.52.04ISO2.
the engine variant follows the family logic, but the bore and size applies to the variant, followed by the cam profile and fuel sistem type (Sb,DSb,Eb,DEb,Db,DCOE....). Ex: 86.05.025Sb or 83.51.830MPFI.
So the car name ends like this:
-RD-25 Cargo 87.03.76IP 79.42.525DEb
-RL-30 Yacht 91.05.78VP 86.05.025Db
