Automation - The Car Company Tycoon Game

Automation - The Car Company Tycoon Game

Mechanical Fuel Injection was first introduced on a production car in 1955
So why can we not include it until 1964? That's a pretty large difference!

I'd like to see it available even earlier, perhaps pre-1950. It was on aircraft engines in the 40's, so I think it should be introduced in 1946, in order to represent postwar companies experimenting with it.

Just something I would like to see changed.

Because its wasn't used commonly in 1955, if you want it at that, you need to research it to unlock it earlier, just like real companies did.

That's what tech points in the campaign are for. You can invest in research and unlock tech earlier than when it becomes commonly used.

and VW used electronic multi point fuel injection in the mid 70s, long before the 1982 release year in the game, but that doesnt mean that it should be that way in the game considering many companies adopted multi point injection way into the 80s(83 Ford Thunderbird with the optional turbo engine was the first north american Ford to use MPFI, heck full size Chevy trucks didnt adopt MPFI until the 90s). The tech unlock years are based more on when something was realistically happening.

By the mid 60s, the knowledge about MFI was more common among mechanics, and was being used/introduced on a larger number of vehicles. The early MFI systems were sometimes so intricate to service that when something went wrong, mechanics would replace the unit with a carb, and were special options. That could very well represent having lots of tech in fuel systems, and putting out a very poorly engineered MFI system in the 50s with a high cost and low reliability, which(albeit sometimes just because the mechanics couldnt fix them) is very much what the situation was with early MFI cars in real life.

I'm asking specifically for sandbox. That is what I use, I haven't touched campaign in months.

VW use the injection from 06/1969 in the VW 1600 and from 1969 in the 411, Opel in 1970 for the Commodore GS/E
Bosch launched the D-Jetronic in 1967

All of the unlock timing is setup for the campaign mode.

But this is another reason why I think itdybe nice to have Sandbox Companies. You could setup the research levels and play around with tech unlock dates.

Agree fully on the tech tree needing flexibility in sandbox. Not every car is built in a campaign. And it can be nice to test theories instead of sinking a company with R&D just to try something out. Dunno if the 40's is necessary for FI, but it'd be nice to see for the mid 50's for sure.

There are other bits that could come sooner, like brakes or transmission types. Perhaps, in sandbox, adding a point to tech could also reduce a year from entry into service dates? I mean with research that seems to be basically how it works in Campaign (Ie work your R&D in a tech field up to 5, and things come out five years sooner, but using them, dials down your free tech pool by the amount of years early you're using it.) Or at least that's the way it seemed to work the last time I braved playing Campaign.

We want to introduce sandbox tech pool eventually :) the campaign is a priority though. Maybe with LCV4 we get sandbox tech pool.
