V16 FAQ
TL;DR!
V16s were temporarily exclusive to Turbocharged / Supercharged supporters.
V16 are now part of a purchasable Supporter Upgrade Pack.

What was promised?
Back before Early Access was a thing, we did sell an Early Access version of Automation via our own website. From 2012 to 2014, potential buyers had the choice between the Naturally Aspirated base version of the game for $25, and the Turbocharged version of the game selling for $35. The latter promised the inclusion of exclusive V16 engines as soon as they are done. The Turbocharged version later changed to become the Supercharged version, selling for the same price tag, also coming with the promise of V16 engines as soon as they are done.

How do you get the V16s? (You do NOT own old premium version)
If you don't have the Turbocharged or Supercharged version from back in the day:[/i]
You can support us and get the V16s here: https://store.steampowered.com/dlc/293760/

How do you get the V16s? (You do own old premium version)
The premium version of the game is tied to your old-forum accounts.
Logistically this means that you will have to log in to your old forum account tied to your premium game version and go where you previously converted your Automation key to become a Steam key. Your V16 Steam key will be listed right there. The link to that page is here this: http://phpbb3.automationgame.com/ucp.php?i=199
You can recover your account here: https://www.automationgame.com/legacy-accounts/

You own the premium version, but can't recover your account?
In that case contact us via support@camshaftsoftware.com and mention which email address(es) you could have used to create your old forum back in the day.

Eh, the only DLC is for V16 engines so it's not too bad. That and personally I'd rarely use them. I'm more worried about something like diesel being added as a DLC. That'd annoy me. Should be in the base game considering how many mass produced cars have diesel engines.

If you want to see a really bad DLC system then look at any game published by Paradox. Insane amounts of DLC, DLC that also happens to frequently have important gameplay features that are really needed in the base game.

V16 engines was a pre-order bonus before the game even came to Steam, you're lucky they are even available as DLC. It's pretty cheap DLC, if you want to play with them. Cheaper overall than what we paid before the game got to Steam.

The reason diesel engines will be DLC is because the engine builder will need to be completely reprogrammed in order for them to work properly. It will take a lot of extra work to add them to the game.

Actually no. Visually it won't need that much work and the only main thing would be getting the performance data right. It's a shame it's not in the game now since it really should be. Please don't make excuses for the devs to try to nickel and dime people. It's not right, especially since the game is about mass-produced cars and many mass-produced cars have diesel engines. V16 engines are beyond rare so it's...semi-tolerable it's a DLC.

This has been discussed ad nauseam. Diesels are completely different from gasoline engines, and it will take a lot more work to simulate them accurately. Sure, they could half-ass it, but that's not how this game was built. It is supposed to be a true simulation.
Killrob  [developer] Jul 14, 2019 @ 2:34am
Properly implementing Diesel engines is about 6-9 months of work, and requires quite a few additional assets and sounds that are hard to come by. That means that they would roughly cost us $300k to make, and that is not something a small indie team can do without some "nickel and dime"ing. Also the scope of Automation never included Diesels to be in the core game because of how much scope that adds, otherwise you'd have a good case.

problem: car is uncontrollable at high HP with V12 and becomes not fun anymore when i have to ruin my car's tuning to not loose control which always fails, can we get the option to adjust suspension, gear ratios, and the amount of veering to the side that causes the car to not work. i feel incapable with the tuning tools i have now because i cannot fix the problem in the settings of automation or beam.

Speaking of V16's, when will Inline 7's come into this game? I've heard of a guy called Todd Wasson that made an engine audio simulation over the inline 7 engine. A thing or two can be learnt just from hearing it.

I'm pretty confident this idea will REALLY start to turn heads for this fresh out the box year we just started, here it is:

That's what V8's were made for.

What makes you say they're a troll? I don't get it.
Maybe your point was rotary engines suck arse mostly, however I'm sure many players (specially beam ones,) would love a completely new engine type. Even if it's ♥♥♥♥♥ - or amazing but unreliable and expensive.
