Family/City Cars
Sorry about my old thread in the general forum, hadn't noticed this sub yet.

Now, not sure what i'm doing wrong but i'm trying to make Family/City regular/budget cars yet everytime i build one it classifies it as muscle/family sports. i'm currently using an 80 HP 1600 cc OHC 2V Inline 4. all iron cast/cast (started in 1946). I'm always choosing either 2 door coupes or 4 door sedans with standard interiors/no radio (i'll add radio once we have the basic/standard ones) and every other aspect is designed more for drivability than anything else... .-.

How does it actually score in the family demographics? One thing that can happen in the very early years is that because there are so few sports and muscle cars available, any car you make will do well in those demographics. If it's also scoring well in family then you aren't doing anything wrong.

it doesn't, it just doesn't score anything in Family category. Between 110-150 in muscle though.

It would be a lot easier to help you out if you could grab a save of a car that you have built the way that you think it should, set up the factories for it, but NOT signed it off yet. :) Just do a manual save where you run into the described issue before signing off, zip the save file and share a link to it with us so we can have a quick look.
You find the campaign saves here:

Sure, let me create a new save and design another car, its not like i'm actually building the cars since i have this problem anyways. Edit : i'm pretty sure i'm simply unable to design for family, instead just put way too strong engines etc but sure.

Okay, downloaded the save and your car is selling fine, even partially in the Family segment... BUT man... you made a friggin 1.6L I4 race engine :P

60 cam, running almost as rich as it can be, performance intake... something about this does indeed sound more like a sports car ;)

How about you take that save and do the following :D
Reduce cam to 30, lower your AFR to 14.7:1, use a standard intake. Then lower compression until your engine stops knocking (about 7:1), then lower your RPM limiter until the engine doesn't valve float anymore (about 5200 RPM). Then load in the car and see if it scores better in family. Adjust gearing for the new engine performance (or the lack thereof), and sign it off. If you can afford to, lower front tire width to get higher drivability and less oversteer. That will also help the family market scores.

You'll have a much better time that way selling Family cars ;) I was really surprised to see you had ANY sportiness, and the engine is why. It is causing more harm than doing good though.

Sorry for the late reply, i went to sleep just after posting that save :p alright, i guess i'll have to get used to engines not having any power... thank you.

Yeah, this was the era when V8s had 80 horsepower.
