Can't Start Game: "Failed to open descriptor file"
Hello,

I noticed there were two other threads on this, but I tried both verifying game files and fully reinstalling the game. Neither of them work and I still get "Failed to open descriptor file".

Are there any other files on the system that I could modify or delete? Any settings I should check for?

Have you verified your install via the Steam Library?

Yes, I have verified three times now, and have reinstalled once. I also tried launching with the launcher, and without. None of it worked.

For the launcher, it happens after I press "Play". It also happens with Safemode.

I also tried clearing cache and saves (since this is a new install IIRC).

Huh, alright! Do you get an AutomationGame.log file when you click the Game Log button in the launcher?
Have you tried launching the game's .exe directly with administrator rights? That usually can give a more accurate error message. You find the .exe here:
\Steam\steamapps\common\Automation\UE424\AutomationGame\Binaries\Win64

Please share the exact error message with us. You could use the snipping tool to screengrab it and send it to support@camshaftsoftware.com along with the game log if you get one, linking to this thread :) that way we can have a closer look!

I do not get a log file, no.

I tried launching the game as Admin as you mentioned and it gave me the same error. I also tried it with the EXE that is in Automation\UE424 and it gave me the same thing.

Trying to run the launcher as Admin, I was given a .NET error that had to do with Steamworks not being initialized.

I will send an email shortly. Thanks for the help.
