Ok, give me an honest opinion, is FF13 trilogy worth playing?
Reviews are all over the place, the community seems to HATE it, and says it has perfromance issues on PC to boot. I heard the story is the worst, and it only gets worse?

Is it fun at all? Worth it? Only thing i find attractive to playing is lightning so far lol. I like the way she looks and she seems interesting.

Yes it is,I didn't play Lightning Returns but I am currently playing FF XIII-2.
Yes you gonna hate the fps issues but they are not too much frequently if you have a decent PC you can handle it it at 30-40fps and in some parts at 60fps,it may sounds frustating having a decent PC and run it with FPS drops but it's okay.
About the story of the first it is perfect (at least for me),in the begginning you may hate certain characters but after some Chapters you will start to like them, the story is a little complex but it is very nice.I Almost forgot, most of people say the game is linear, yes there is parts that you will find it too repetitive and boring (Chapter 9 is linear as **** but the boss is fun) but most of parts you will have fun trust me.
About FF XIII-2 I still didn't finished it but for the first 3 hours you may find the game boring, tedious and bad but it only gets better :)
I Recomend you to buy the first game then if you like it,finish it and buy XIII-2

You're welcome

I thoroughly enjoyed it way back on PS3. It didn't match up the the PS1 titles in my (and many people's) opinion, but it was still a good game.
It is pretty linear and has an annoying auto battle feature (can be disabled via the menu)
There are still issues on PC, and even though mine have been sorted, some people are still having them.
However, I don't think there's many people with problems that make the game totally unplayable, and it doesn't cost all that much.

I've only played 13 so far. Waiting on 13-2 to be patched as that has been unplayable for me so far. But I'd definitely recommend 13 and seeing what you think for yourself.

If you like JRPGs then yes, it's worth a shot. It has very strong points (probably the most strategy-heavy combat system in the series… but only after the 66% mark) and some bad points, just like most games. I hear Valkyra Chronicles is even better, but if it's money/length you want then you can probably get both FFXIIIs for the price of Sega's game.

As a very subjective opinion, I really love the game, but I can see the faults of it too. Would recommend it to anyone despite the technical problems.

Each people have different opinions (but I still have anyone who says "The series went crap after FFX or something like that" )
Anyway, imo the biggest biggest biggest biggest flaw in FFXIII is that there is (almost) no NPC. If you have played others FF, you will notice that the way the NPCs appear make the game more lively. I mean you can feel that life s still circling around the characters.
Take some random people from FF8 for example, local people at Winhill, the publishers at Timber Maniacs Office, the fishermen at Fishermans Horizon... they all contribute to the big picture of the game. Those people are not on the good side or bad side, they're just there to make the game real.
In FF13, most (99%) characters you come across are either on your side or on the opposite side. You can't really feel much about how life's going. Also, there are several flaws like the talking between characters is very very emotional, not much is revealed about characters' past... But hey, every game has its flaws, right?
---
TL;DR: If you can put aside the fact that the story is not so lively and the life is not so real due to the lack of NPCs, you can enjoy the game

Yup, if you just block out all the crying and the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on the forums you will enjoy it :)

FF13 is one of the better storylines imo of the FF games and even though people seem to hate every character in this game, I just dont get it. I love every character in this game (except for Hope, ♥♥♥♥ Hope)

Combat is really fun, if you enjoy any other JRPGs you will enjoy it.

Also, dont buy it unless you have an nvidia card. Just a friendly bit of advice :) FF13 does not like AMD.

enjoy that game :8bitheart:

It's worth it for the price.
I'd be pissed if I paid $60 (or how much ever it was originally priced). But since it's considerably cheaper (especially factoring in sales)...

Im 22 hours in:

Pros:

- Great graphics, 1080p AA and high res shadows.
- Great story, amazing in my opinion.
- Production value's are out of this world.
- Soundtrack is decent enough for a Final Fantasy game. But not the best.
- Great battlesystem.

Cons:

- FPS drops..
- Pacing is sometimes horrible.
- Slow start.
- Battlesystem get's interesting in the latter half of the game.

Yeah, i think this game rocks. It's not always great but i'm having a great time most of the time.

They removed the tedious towns and NPC's in this one, typical JRPG ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Do people really care about towns? They suck even in the best RPG's like Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger. I mean you only go to towns to gear up for battle and they don't add up anything to the game, they are boring.

There are towns in this game, in the cutscene's.. so why do people even care? I don't know.

I would say the first of the trilogy is worth playing for the battle system, if you don't care about repetitive gameplay for 30+ hours...

Don't fall on these "you'll like this game if you like JRPGs" statements, this is different from 99% of the JRPGs. There's no adventure elements, no city exploration, no minigames, and the only side quests are more battles. It's the perfect game if you don't care about these things and love to dive on a good battle system.

FFXIII-2 and Lightning Returns i would say just to keep distance lol

I recommend you play FF7-9 instead.

I don't recommend the first one at all. XIII weaves an interesting premise at first, with you turning squarely into the team of the bad guys for once, and you're even given a decent reason to play along with it! It's actually quite an interesting setting.

Unfortunately it *really* overstays its welcome. Most of the places you'll go through are beautiful, but really fail to stimulate you in any sort of good way. The lack of NPC's, shallow combat system and linear corridors wear on you after a while, and the battles with random mobs start to get longer and longer too, exacerbating the problem.

They say the game "opens up" in chapter 11. It indeed becomes "wider", with a few open maps and different paths to choose from. Unfortunately the only new mechanic in this new enviorment shows itself to be a set of fairly bland hunting quests, which don't even hold a candle to even, for example, FFXII's hunting board system. Travelling around was still much of a pain, since you could only teleport between teleports in the current region, and not in-between regions (I didn't unlock that many teleports so take it with a grain of salt).

The ending is rather stale, but it's a fitting closure I suppose. It took me around 28 hours to get to chapter 11, and my final save's sitting just short of 50.

Was the ride worth it? It's really rather dirty saying this about a game that's already so cheap, but if it drops down to 7 or 5 dollars, sure, it's worth your time to buy it just to get your own opinion. If you want to save yourself a 50 gigabyte download though, you're much better off served watching all the cutscenes on youtube; you're really not missing out on much here.

(as a little nitpick, the game has direct input so it doesn't recognize x360ce, but it also works terribly with generic USB sticks, with the buttons being jumbled up. You can get around this by installing another application, but the game controls fine with keyboard and mouse too)

I've played nine hours of XIII-2, and in good contrast, the game feels much better. For starters, so far, gone are most of the corridors: every enviorment is open to some degree and encourages exploration for items and fragments.

If you've ever played it, this game feels a lot like X-2, in a good way. You only control three characters instead of many, which consolidates character development in a good way. The crystarium is unfortunately a bit more confusing this time around, but still better over the old one, which, infuriatingly, made you watch the line slowly move across skills and bonuses over some of the bigger improvements, hundreds of times.

The combat's still the same, but now you have direct control over getting a preemptive strike against enemies with a persona-esque overworld sword whack. Running past enemies is also easier, and getting the preemptive strike grants you helpful buffs at the start of battle.

There's "cinematic actions" (QTE's) during certain parts of the story and combat; they're easy, look pretty cool and almost always get you some sort of bonus. It does a great job of spicing up some of those longer battles.

There's really not much of a story so far, but I feel the game's holding out in a good way: you learn most of what you need to get you interested right at the beginning. And speaking of beginnings, the game does a bang-up job in the first couple of areas in the game: the settings are cool, the music is FANTASTIC, and there's NPC's everywhere now to add flavor to enviorments. They even do cool things in the overworld like attack the monsters that pop up!

I haven't met a lot of the characters yet, but so far they're much more interesting. Serah doesn't feel whiny like Hope or airheaded like Vanille, she's average enough that you can relate to her as a main character. Then there's Noel, arguably the *actual* main character of the game: there's so much tude in that guy it's hard to keep it all in one sentence. He's brave, down-to-earth, and dependable. He also shows some negative emotions at point which help to humanize him, and has a mysterious past to boot! Very well-done, interesting character.

To help along the story, there's also a mass-effect esque (for lack of a better term) dialogue wheel you can go through, though unfortunately you can only pick one, and the game actually warns you that different options lead to different rewards at the end of a story bead. This just serves to make you worried about not getting the best thing by selecting the wrong option in my opinion, but luckily you can go back and re-do them by rewinding time.

Finally, there's just something about the way the game moves, the NPC's talk to each other and you, the way everything animates in the overworld, the way camera angles play out, that really, really reminds me of X-2, in a good way! X-2 was the calm after the storm; it was vacation-esque, you went where you pleased and did what you wanted. You interacted with your favorite NPC's and visited your favorite locations from X right from the get-go. This game feels very much like that in a way: the calm after the storm that was XIII. The stress-free vacation you get after a hard day's work.

If you want to try this XIII stuff out, get this game. It comes with a Beginner's Primer to get you up to speed on the story so far, and again, you're not missing out much with XIII. It's hard getting your thoughts in place when there's so much good stuff to talk about, but it's just a better and improved game in every way, for sure. Much smaller download too, only 28 gigs, though it still has controller issues unfortunately.

Totally worth the smidget more that it costs over XIII. And we'll see about Lighting Returns when we cross that bridge, I guess!

For me this game really sucks compared to Final Fantasy XII, in both story and battle system and this game is a lot more easy + the upgrade system are made for console kiddies
only the graphics are nice (story seems weak to me im sad to say)
