isn't lindzei a serpent? a pulse legend to explain the "swarming nest of vipers" that is cocoon.
what i found quite interesting is that Ragnarok is drained of power by Etro and she's the one who puts l'cie into crystal.
coocoon falcie and pulse falcie are both after the same thing. i expect they "work" together to create l'cie to destroy coocoon, why else can barthandulas travel so freely back and forth from coocoon to pulse.

But the actual explanation was that so many deaths at once would have flung open the gates of the afterlife/purgatory, so their apparently dead gods could come back from there.
It's different (well, 'incomplete' or 'broken', to be precise) because waaaaaay back on the War of Transgression where Fang transformed into Ragnarok, Etro stepped in changed Fang back. Her (and by extension Vanille's) focus was incomplete, but because Fang is the one who transformed into Ragnarok, her L'cie mark is the one that changed. Why were they becoming crystal is something I kinda forgot; if I remember correctly, that's because simply they just couldn't finish the Focus because of Etro's sudden involvement, thus "welp, just standby by becoming a crystal for a while. We'll wake you gals up when we're ready." by the Fal'cie(s).
By this, I can speculate that Pulse and Lindzei could actually find the door to the Unseen World and have completed the task given by Bhunivelze, but they couldn't find a way to return. So, if they come back they can awake Bhunivelze. But as said Mwynn, death is a part of all the cycle of life and is the fate of all living things, maybe she revealed to Pulse and Lindzei how their task was actually useless? And is Bhunivelze going to destroy her anyway, just trying to prove he is right? Maybe Lindzei, Pulse and Etro could put some sense into his mind...
