Nope there are no audio options in the game. You can only adjust the volume via your PC or Speaker volume control where it is all or nothing.
The soundtrack is indeed fantastic, though.
Masashi Hamauzu's music is much more piano-oriented and leans towards the atmospheric. The slow build of the opening/credits theme or that etherial, dreamlike song that plays on the Vestige are good examples of the man's predilections as a composer. I think Final Fantasy XIII is mostly a failure as an experiment in design, but the soundtrack is, IMO, one of the best in the series.
His work on SaGa Frontier 2 still blows my mind.

SaGa Frontier 2 was awesome.
Got positively surprised though, the soundtrack is really good. While Uematu's work can stand on it's own, and often features a very unique melody with quite some amount of syncopation, the FF13 soundtrack is rather atmospheric (more like game/movie music) and abit more experimental (with influence from techno, metal, bossa nova etc). I really liked that
Speaking of the Battle Theme: Blinded by Light is awesome (and very similar to Uematsu's style), I still am mad, that they didn't include the classic victory fanfare though :-(
Yea the soundtrack in this game is definitely one of the weaker points in my opinion. Up till chapter 11 I haven't heard anything memorable. A good story NEEDS a good soundtrack to be truly memorable in my opinion.
Whatever Square Enix does with Final Fantasy XV I hope they find someone to compose a better soundtrack :/
While I prefer Uematsu, this composer has some great music.
I think one mistake they made was using the wrong music at the wrong time.
The alarms are going off in the palamecia, you're being hunted and fighting your way through. There's some jovial track playing in the background. While, really, there should've been a ♥♥♥♥♥ is hitting the fan track playing.
Was such an awesome experience.
