1. VI and IV. They are *both* the best. Disagree and you smell like elephant butt. Honestly, there isn't much explanation needed. These are the most epic of tales, and the characters were incredible, the stories were incredible, the battle system, the stats, the accessories of 6, the natural born classes of 4, Kefka? Holy ****. Srsly. The only thing that might bring 4 below 6 is that it has a trillion remakes and that annoys me.. but its one of the most remade video games of all time for a reason, right?

2. VII. Fine. I will admit it. It's up there. There's a mass generation of kiddies who claim 7 is the best, but usually they never played 6 and 4 and jumped onboard the playstation hype. Honestly, I have yet to meet someone who played 4 and 6 before 7, played 7, and think 7 is better. Not one person. There's a good reason why. Anyway, the materia system was a really, really good idea. Very interesting characters.. but I can't quite remember the name of the villian from this game. He must not have been very memorable I guess. *shrug*

3. VIII. It's flawed as hell, but fun as hell. Lets make the limit break system depend on just being low health, allow junctioning and card playing to destroy the game.. wait.. that's WHY I love it. Also I still have my triple triad decks from when the game came out :P The games world is very open and explorable until a certain point when the developers did something lazy to save disk space.

4. V is good. It's reasonably tough, reasonable story, a great job system, but one town theme in this game makes me want to hurt people. You know the one.

5. ill stick X here, if we can both agree that X-2 never happened. Okay?

6. Lets put XIII here. Its barely more linear then the kings of final fantasy games, but vastly more *apparently* linear. I haven't played XIII-2 or LR yet. I want to, but ill wait for the remakes coming soon.

7. III - It was pretty good! Love the remake too. Its hard!

8. I - It was good! Stock up on dem potions!

9. II, XII, IX - Garbage. Utter garbage. I'm glad they didn't stop making games after II wanting to hopefully redeem themselves. They did. I hate 9's cast. I hate everything about 12.

Unranked: the mmos! I played XI pretty long. I loved MMO's back then, the feeling of terror you get when you leave the confines of a city. Now everyone is a one shot master of doom to all the monsters outside town in every MMO. No fun.

FFXIV I only played ARR.. and I like it. I only played for a month or so, as I didn't want to invest so much time. Its good for casual players to dip their tootsies into MMO land for carebares and rainbows, but it's still good and fun. Thankfully, I am lucky to have missed classic XIV.

9 > 6 > 12 > tactics > 4

Tactics by far... the most shakespearean plot of them all, enjoyed it so much back in the day... then, maybe XII, it was an upgrade from Vagrant Story gameplay wise.

For some reason the gameplay in VI has never clicked with me. I love the cast, the story, the villain, the music, the world, and the graphics, but I can't get into the game. I plan on trying again soon.

Pending my final decision on VI, my favorite is...X. Or VII. Or XII. Although I love the job system in V. And IX has a lot going for it. I can't really choose.

8,12,7,Tactics Advance

In that order.

Then Final fantasy extreme makeover X-2 somewhere below the bottom of the list, on a scrap of paper.

FFVI. If it had Chrono Trigger's art and combat system to make sure it's perfect on the technical side, not just the storytelling one, only the die-hard Metroid and/or Zelda fans would even try to argue that it was the best SNES game ever. And also the best Final Fantasy.

I would have to say IX or IV personally.

Hoping that SquareEnix continues to bring ports of the series over. It'd be nice to have a complete collection in the Steam library.

Going to stick to the main series for this not the spin offs or tactics games (although chocobo dungeon <3)

I think final fantasy 6 is the best overall package. Best story and best gameplay that both hold up today.

However I am a sucker for the old 8 bit stuff on the famicom so out of those I would say its a tie between 1 and 3. Its just so much fun giving the little sprites their own personalities and interactions while you play, and being able to customize the classes adds to this, something you can't really get with the predefined final fantasy games.

To be honest when 7 hit shelfs it was the first time I played a final fantasy game and thought "this isn't really final fantasy" its a good game but its not final fantasy to me. same goes for 13 and 12 etc. Good games in their own right but they will never be final fantasy games to me. although 14 and 9 bring me back to the 8 bit 16 bit days and feelings, so its not the leap to 3d that killed it for me, I think its the transition from FANTASY and to more of this sci fi stuff? its a large amount of things to be honest.

When I see a chocobo in ff13 i think of it more like a nod to the old final fantasy games in the same way seeing a mario painting is a nod to the mario series in zelda. different games.

My personal favorites would have to be VIII and the XIII series, with VII and VI coming second and third respectively. They're all amazing games and all have something different to offer to the series.

My least favorite (I'm gonna get A LOT of hate for this) is probably X. I just couldn't relate to the characters and story, and Spira just didn't captivate me as much as the worlds of the other games...although I will admit, getting to play as your summons was pretty awesome.
