What the Hell is Wrong with Vanille?

I'm not through with the game, I think I'm on chapter 7 or something, and I wanted to open a discussion about Vanille...
What the ♥♥♥♥ is she? Is she an alien in human skin? Does she have severe retardation or maybe Rett Syndrom?
I, for the life of me, cannot comprehand how does anything that she says or does have anything to do with the reality around her. She walks into a ruin filled with monsters? "La La La La La! Lets skip into them Hope! Cos they are unicorns and they give us cupcakes!"
I... Ugh.
Sorry, just felt like venting out some frustration with SE's ♥♥♥♥ty writing. It's like all the people who worked on FF12 or 10 left and the ones who remained are aliens whose only interaction with human emotions was through shounen manga from the 70's.

There is a reason. It's not good enough in my opinion but it does explain it. You will run into it as you truck along. Judge it for yourself once you get there!

You'll understand why she is like that eventually. Basically she is running away from her problems and doesn't care where she runs, as long as she can keep running.

first of all, the English translation is pretty off most of the time. so what you read (or hear) isn't exactly the original script (which for the most part isn't as lame).
if you know some Japanese and play with the original voice acting (which i recommend anyway, because the English voice overs are atrocious), you will see the difference.

She is scared to death and hiding something big and trying to put up a strong front to the others. You will find out what she is hiding and why she is acting the way she is a bit later in the story.

I played the Japanese version on PS3 and didn't find any of the characters annoying, in fact the actors were top notch. But I did hear from a friend that they wanted to quit the game because of Vanilla's voice in US version, and I completely understand the feeling since I never finished FF12 due to the terrible dub (this was before I took up Japanese)

If you're talking more about the believability of the character, well it's a Japanese made game. Those rarely have well written characters, it's usually up to the actors to sell them.

Vanille is a very Japanese type of character. They have a type of celebrity called an "idol" which is typically (typically!) a young girl who's entire image is designed to make her seem "cute." That's part of what Vanille is designed to do.

Additionally, as others have said, there's actually a reason why Vanille does what she does. My advice to you is to pay REAL attention to the story. Pay VERY close attention whenever she's on the screen, whenever there's the voiceover of her speaking. They give you hints as to what she is.

just turn on the ♥♥♥ voices. It's waaaaay better. Well, Vanille reveal herself when she hang arround with Sazh. There is chocobos and all this cute things... I think it's on chap 8 or 9.

And i will agree with the others that said she is this way mostly because this is in the end a game made by japanese people.

If you are used to animes/mangas and such , this wont surprise you so much.
