Achievements and save sharing.
Anyone know if there's a save archive that can be used to unlock the achievements?

My completion of the game on the 360 is causing me to lose interest every time I boot the game. Can't bring myself to grind this ♥♥♥♥ again. Just want to get the achievements unlocked so it's as if I transfered my save from my 360 to my PC, and move on to XIII-2 (which I haven't played yet).

Readme included. Some save names are not exactly accurate, use the description in these cases.

EDIT: So for the ones that aren't exactly accurate, we're talking about the multi-saves? Like "before boss / after boss" ones? I'm assuming I should do the before-boss ones for those achievements, right?

I don't know, someone just reported that some of the save names were not accurate in the readme. I forgot to follow it up, sadly.
In theory you can use the before boss ones, since the achievements tend to pop up after the next chapter is started and you are in control of the characters again. The after boss saves are made before those, at the start of the chapter-introduction movies. I included the before boss ones for safety and for those who want to practise boss fights.

Ah, I see. Thanks for explaining. If I encounter any of those problems, I'll toss the info your way.

So the saves aren't working, game can't read them.

Disable Steam Cloud, so the game uses the Documents folder. Then you can use other people's saves. Many others used them before you, so it is proven they work. :)

Right, keep forgetting this is ported terribly. Will try that tomorrow.

So disabling cloud sync worked, thanks for pointing that out. Also, Floraphobe unlocked for me when I did Natural Selector (save 44), so you can update your readme with that tip. Might just be a personal case, but couldn't hurt to put it there.

I can't unlock Instrument of Faith with either 39 nor 40, because the saves are made after the boss (who's death is the trigger for the achievement).

Instrument of Faith is stated to unlock in the starting sequence of Chapter 12. Strange. They really moved the trigger? *scratches head* (And I probably can't make anything to this save pack until next February or so.)

Unless it unlocks after completing that horrid maze of moving platforms that takes several hours to navigate, it's been changed. Tried both 39 and 40, as well as proc'ing the initial cutscene after taking the elevator (shows the party traveling to the Cradle).

It's not an ideal solution, but I can point you towards an example of how speedrunners get through chapter 12 if you want. By mimicking the route and taking advantage of higher stats (I assume), you should be able to complete the chapter from save 38 in under an hour.

I have access to Cheat Engine, and was planning on doing just that. Maybe not as efficient as a speedrunner, but it'd be beyond easy with 999,999 Strength and Magic stats.

Yeah, stats are no problem, that save has a maxed out stage 9 party with some maxed out level 2 weapons and quite a lot of high-end accessories, IIRC. Most saves after chapter 9 were set up so people could practise strategies if they want to. (Large amount of CP and gil available which I always spent after the saves, for example.)

So after some meddling, I have discovered that Instrument of Faith is save 37, simply activate the craft and enjoy achievement. Must be the one you were mentioning where people were saying it was labeled wrong. All good now though.

The provided save didn't work for Master's Seal, but using the save for the various role seals worked once I snagged all the assorted missing bits.

Whew, took a bit of extra work but managed to get everything done. All that's left is to let the launcher idle when I sleep until I have a few thousand hours like I had on the 360.

Onwards to XIII-2! Which seems to work much better than XIII for whatever reason.
