How much does fight result affect drop rate?

So, I'm "early" on into the game, I only unlocked Vanille's esper or summon (Chapter 11).

I can beat one of those legless "adamant" thingy (the smaller ones), but so far I wasn't able to get even the regular loot. Probably because I'm getting between 2 and 0 star, so all I'm getting is the experience, and killing King Behemoth is more worthwhile for that.

I'm thinking I should come back much later, when I can kill them faster.

The star rating does not affect the normal drop rate. It does affect the rare drop rate. 0-2 stars - no chance, 3 stars - normal rate, 4 stars - 3x rate, 5 stars - 5x rate.

So I guess I'm just incredibly unlucky then, because I heard the gold dust drop rate is 25% (and 37.5% with collector thingy), and so far I got nothing.

You may want to temporarily switch the difficulty to Easy Mode, since that one increases the chance of regular drops by 2.5x, so you'll get Gold Dust with a 93.75% drop rate. Note that rare drops become impossible to obtain on Easy Mode, though.

Does it affect the game in any way or will it only make farming faster?
