Command entry/auto attack is not the battle system's primary control point--your main combat menu is your paradigms. If you don't like the way battles are playing out, change your paradigms (and/or equipment). Also consider getting good at manual command entry as you can usually do better than what auto-attack gives you.

FFXIII is story and combat with minimal amounts of non-combat mini-games or sidequests. Engage with combats instead of sleepwalking through them and you're much more likely to enjoy playing the game.

well in case you weren't aware but almost every FF game (excluding 15) are linear with minor world exploration. if you were expecting full blown world exploring while wanting to fight huge monsters then you're playing the wrong series.

I will try doind that.

The paradigms system looks cool, but i used 2 times in a boss battle and thats it. In random combats i never changed.

I will wait a bit, i got burned playing the game, and I have to play 13-2 and 13-3
Its the only ff main entry that i never played.

I looked online and the game is kinda world open aftar chapter 9, so yeah, kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

But thanks bro.

Look up what linear is in terms of video games. Also who are you talking to? I have 7, 10 + 10-2, 13 + 13-2, LR, 15 and I've played ff12 on my friends account. It's like you read over my comment which is sad to say the least.

Would have helped if you could care about the characters and story you're following, but they're both peek Final Fantasy cringe, on top of being needlessly convoluted and opaque

Paradigms are a fancy term to describe what amounts to press a button every time your ATB fills twice for free ATB, and preferably for a clone of the one you start with until yellow bar is up or green bar is too low

I bought the entire trilogy back then (for cheap thankfully), and tried to get into the first 5 times up until now, just to quit and uninstall every time out of cringe overdose, usually as a result of the nauseous Snow / Serah narrative, though it's not like the other characters are that much better

Even more preposterous world designs this time contaminating even the Summons Transformers Eidolons, on top of the most terminal nonsensical J-Pop escapee outfits Nomura ever produced

And as you noted, a serious case of press W where controlling your character isn't even pleasant since they run with a stick in the butt or walk to a crawl with no animation blend in between
Said corridors which wouldn't be an issue if there was some scenery to actually enjoy other than grey rocks, orange rocks and blue rocks

Lightning's ok, Sazh is fine when he's not reduced to comic relief, that's about all that is good (passable) about this entire game

Well, maybe its just me...

But the main highlight and excitement is being able to take down Adamantoises and the Guis without Death, Shrouds or Summons.

Most of the end-game stuff involves all the roles and various combinations of Paradigms. Even Sentinels have a place for end-game, although few and far between.

Just stick with it until you reach Gran Pulse, which is where the game becomes more open-world.
CDXX Jul 7, 2022 @ 6:35pm
Yeah, it is pretty boring all around, until you get to Pulse in chapter 9, the exception being the setting. If you can push yourself through, though, I think it's worth it. It's not until Pulse that you learn the main conflict of the story, it's only hinted at before then. I thought it was compelling, and the bosses get pretty challenging and cool. This is one of the harder FF's I've played, because it blocks you from grinding until Ch. 9, which is a design choice I ended up agreeing with. The open world is legit, and the Paradigm system actually starts to matter at that point, so it feels like you are finally influencing the fights in very meaningful ways. I'm considering replaying it, but that is a bit sado-masochistic. I'd say that unless you have enjoyed the crystal world, or a certain character, or a certain mechanic, etc. at this point, then you could probably skip this one. I personally felt satisfied at the end, but there is a good chance you won't. Btw, I thought the sequels were hot ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ garbage.

As a professional semi-hater of this series, just always manual control and experiment with paradigms. that's where most of the fun will come from. This title heavily relies on its gameplay to carry it. It also doesn't help that your basically stuck in endless tutorial mode until chapter 9.

Chapter 9 is when auto-battle will get you killed and the kid gloves comes off. its when you can finally enjoy yourself. :steammocking:

Good Luck. :steamhappy:

I played all the way till the final fight. Saved just before the battle, then stopped playing the game. How does it end? Who knows! Do I care, nope. Story wasn't particularly interesting, and thinking back on the game, I can only remember a handful of moments.

yeah, it sort of, but I like its linearity, but when you get to the Gran Pulse, you will have a bit of an open world and boy, its hard and fun if you beat one.

However, it might not be the open world you wish, a better open world with great story would be Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, with HZD > HFW.

agreed, also, when you encounter a certain difficult fight, you have to experiment with paradigms
