How often do people roll? I find I have to roll quite often,if fighting tough
npc etc Is Geralt ment to know the move to roll? sure his pals don't roll?
Does Geralt roll often in the series or author story?

in the game, I'd roll often... specifically, dodge & roll combo. in the books, Geralt often performs a 'pirouette' or 'half pirouette'

which can be done in the game too(i believe with mods, can't remember).. its like a little spin(360/180 degree spin).

I've only read one book, but it seems clear that witchers train to avoid taking damage and 'strike when it gains most advantage'.

In the game, I think that CDPR tried to reproduce this by rolling and dodging. If you're new to the game, bear in mind that rolling uses stamina. If you can dodge a blow, it doesn't.

After that, with group enemies (neckers, wolves or humans), keep an eye on them all. get in as many sign attacks or sword strikes as you can before being struck.

I roll often.

I sometimes dodge. Don't forget parry.

Yep, though, rolling is good and we all do it.

So playing as Geralt should we roll often? or is like cheating to win?

how do you figure it's like cheating? if you feel it gives you an advantage, then don't preform the move. It's almost like saying the Aerondight is too powerful, so is feels like cheating.. well then use a different sword.

its not like you're exposing & capitalizing on a flaw made by the developers.

I don't think it's cheating. The game teaches you how to roll during the tutorial, after all. Why wouldn't the devs teach us how to do it if they didn't intend to do it? There are even a few monsters, such as the griffin and the arch-griffin, whose descriptions even advise rolling to avoid the wing attack.

I do use very much if have to, not complaining thanks.

I find rolling often puts too much distance between you and the enemy so you're too far away to do a quick followup attack. Therefore I almost always prefer dodging except against very large monsters.

when fighting i roll, side step, etc all the time. Some foes you can block/attack or counter attack such as humans/swords/shields, etc. Some foes its easier to roll and manuver out of the way or into a better position.

Sadly what i do not do is dodge, which i consider useless in the game, requiring an additional button push while fighting. There is a skill that benefits dodging, but sadly no such skill benefits simply rolling or side stepping. I consider "dodge" useless due to many reasons.
