Gwent: High Stakes... is it even possible to win?
Am I missing something here?

Basically, I can't win... like at all. It's has gotten to the point where I assume I'm supposed to do something first before the game will even let me beat Bernard Tulle.

I have gone the entire game without losing a single game of Gwent until this mission (on normal difficulty). I even changed the Gwent difficulty to easy, and still I've lost maybe 15 times now?

My Northern Realms deck is basically as good as it gets. I just lost another game where I had Ciri, Geralt, Yen, Vernon Roche, and some other great siege cards with special abilities and a commander's horn.

No matter what I do or what I play the computer ALWAYS has the perfect counter, to the point where I'm assuming it's not actually playing 10 static randomly generated cards, but whatever it can cheat into being my perfect counter...

So, is this mission actually winnable, or is it just a troll mission? I literally can't fathom how I can win. If my deck right now isn't good enough than it never will be.

Rant over.

Considering you get an achievement for winning the gwent tournament, and many og us have that achievement, it is very winnable. It's just not easy like all the other gwent matches.

I guess it's winnable but is there something I'm supposed to do first?

Like I said... my Northern Realms deck is as good as it gets... I have all unique and hero cards, and I filter out all the crap to make those 22 cards as good as possible. No matter what I do the computer gets the same perfect cards to counter me with everytime. It's one thing to lose on a bad deck, or with stupid strategy, but it's not even giving the option to win in the way I'm being generated. Like nothing I do can defeat the computer.

Well if you can complete all the Gewnt missions, Especialy the ones for your old friend as those give you the most unique rare neutral heros.

On a side note unless you're doing it for the achiev don't bother even trying to win, The reward is still split -_- (Pisses me off to no measure)

Keep High Stakes quest for the last. Collect all other cards. When you have most of them, then do the quest. Yes, it's hard, that's why you need to have best cards if you want to win.

Pretty easy once you get the OP cards

Get as many spies as you can. Use Decoys on their spies. Most importantly, get lucky with the random draw and hope they haven't. You can save before each match aside from the last one I believe.

OMG so I finally beat Bernard. Jesus, man. And all I got for it was a lousy leader card!

Like I said. I have all the best possible cards for the Northern Realms. I have no card in my deck below a 5 (except for my spies).

It turns out basically the only way you can beat him is if you are lucky enough to get a Torrential Rain card, as he will go all out on his siege cards in the last round. Also, don't put any siege cards in your own deck as he uses the leader card which destroys them all.

Hero cards are pretty useless against him too. I got my butt kicked against him with Geralt, Ciri, Vernon Roche, and that other level 10 leader all on the table. Yet the one game I finally beat him in I only had Vernon Roche as a leader.

Hero cards aren't that good, honestly. To win this tournament, you need tons of spies and decoy cards (to get the spies they use) and those cards that can be combined (like the Blue Stripe Commando) along with a commander's horn. A hero here and there can be useful to bypass a weather card, but they shouldn't be your main force.

If I remember, the second challenger is a woman and she uses a Nilfgaardian deck and she is hard as ♥♥♥♥ to beat. The third is and arrogant elf who uses a Scoia'Tael deck and the last is a guy who uses a monster deck.

I guess the only reason to do the quest is money , cards if win and sex haha.
bro

you gotta win this. prizes are irrelevant. this is about being the world champion of Gwent.

it's like a martial arts movie. if you can't be the best, what's the point?

There's more to it than just having good cards. Always play in burn order. We can assume that a strong player will have a Scorch card in their hand. (or we must assume)

So? Layer your cards. Place 1 blue commando, then a 5er, then a 6er, maybe a hero here and there
drag it out and they'll waste their scorch on something because they can't resist
even 2 blue commandos, if they burn 2 of your 8s that's still better than 2 16er catapults

use a lot of blue commandos
if you have decoys for spies, but they dont use spies, then use the decoy at the end of a round to get back a blue commando or wahtever multiplier cards
use medics for spies
deck:

dont use rain cards
dont use too many decoys not helpful
dont use more than 1, maybe 2 at most scorch

remember that every spcl card in your hand significantly lowers your dps, so think about the conditions required for them t obe better

If the enemy doesn't employ clear weather then specialize your deck to 1 weak category: ex archers, and get a fog card to trump their archer
against monsters use your scorch early because your own numbers are likely to be higher but you could actually survive the first round without having to throw by dps

Hmm 22 cards thats not really a lot. I usually have 28-30 depending on the deck. Do you have many spies?

Northern Realms- Dijkstra, Thaler, Stennis, Mysterious elf, probably forgetting some been awhile. Also have 3 decoys in your deck for the opponents who use Nilfgaard (full of spies)

Get medics in your deck so you can bring back enemy spies.

Scorch x2 - Use them wisely.

Use some of the hero cards but keep the 10 power ones to a minimum. Use Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer(medic), Roche etc.

Don't go crazy on the siege engines just use the one that stacks the 8 power one.

Blue Stripe commandos, Crimson Reavers < a must.

Commander Horns.

if your playing a monster deck have a couple biting frost in your deck.
