*Spoiler* Battle for Kaer Morhen
after the Isle of Mists, cutscenes lead me to Kaer Morhen with everyone present. My question: is there a blacksmith anywhere around? Big battle ahead. Zoltan is an armorer and wrong craftsman.

No, there isn't. But I believe you can leave, go do what you have to and return so long as you don't trigger the cutscene that calls for a meeting with everyone to decide on strategy. So if you've just arrived there and talked to everyone but haven't gone inside yet, fast travel elsewhere, say Novigrad, do what you need to do and then return.

Should be fine but please do a manual save first just in case I'm wrong about this. Good luck.
i can't leave, i went to the fast travel post and got the message "you cannot do that right now." i guess i'd have to fight with what i've got. Thanks anyway.

not really, i got this awesome steel sword diagram from Isle of Mists w/c i can use against the Wild Hunt soldiers, so i need a blacksmith.

You use silver. And the defense section is really easy, almost underwhelming. If you got there you are able to handle this part, too. Even with your old lvl 3 silver bread knife.

Ok thanks guys, great inputs. It's funny though how official walkthroughs can be confusing at times. It said that before the meeting for battle strategy at Kaer Morhen, it would be a good time to prepare elementa oils for the hounds and Hanged Man's Venom for the soldiers.
But i guess going silver is the right thing.

To be fair, everybody assumes you use steel on the Wild Hunt soldiers because why wouldn't you they're elves. It only makes logical sense.

You only really notice that you use silver on them if you use a "no automatic sword sheathe/unsheathe" mod, or have really sharp eyes during the boss fight in Avellac'h's laboratory in Velen.

As said elsewhere, it's likely they wanted to avoid that you have fight monster dogs and humanoid elves with different blades.

This is a good point. Plus you don't need to change oils mid fight which in itself is a little strange.
