DX11 versus DX12
Assuming one doesn't run ray tracing, is there a substantial reason to choose DX11 over DX 12 ?

Running a 3060Ti at ultra and ultra+, but I have yet to crack 60 fps. Usually hovers around 50 or so.

yes, dx12 loses about 30% performance over dx11. the shadows are a tad brighter in dx12 but other than that it is just not worth it.

dx11 just performs vastly better

have you try dx11?
for me both run like as with a 5800x and a 6800xt with no RT

I am running the game using DX12, all Ultra+ settings, DLSS set to Quality and Hairworks on Max settings. At 1080P, capped at 60 fps. Game plays very smooth and is very stable. I can run it with the above settings with RT on, but not as smooth. But I also do not like how RT handles some of the light reflections in the game. So I play with it off.

Now, it is best to note, I am not one of those who needs high FPS to enjoy a game. As long as it appears smooth for me, that is all I care about. I do not run a fps counter. If I had to guess what fps I am getting in the game, I would say 50 -60 range. Which I am perfectly happy with.

This is with a RTX 3060Ti and I7 11700k.

this literally does not answer the question... it isn't even in the ballpark of answering the question

It did. You just do not understand. I am using the same GPU as you do. And DX11 will give you higher FPS, but will lack the full visuals the update added. CD Project said that themselves. Ether turn off your damn fps counter and enjoy the game, or use DX11. :P

except that, the visuals that are "lacking" is RT. the only other difference is that shadows in dx12 are darker, not better, darker. for the rest the visuals are the same between the two, CDPR never even confirmed WHAT was different between the two, you just assume dx12 is far better on the base ultra+ settings. both these versions are the same when it comes to those.

same textures, same DOF, same foliage, same weather, same skybox, same AO, same screen space reflections

objectively the base game is practically the same, with a massive fps boost on dx11. all you did was share your dx12 experience without any real information behind it because you don't use an fps counter and just "guess". this wasn't the question, the question was, is there a reason to use dx11 over 12. and the answer is yes, performance increase for practically the same visuals

Then use DX11. Have fun. :)

5600x+3070 here, dx11 is performing waaaay better compared to dx12 with the same settings, even with dx12 dlss on i can barely reach dx11 fps and stability, and in cities dx11 has 25% more fps, with dx 12 i'm experiencing cpu bottleneck, gpu load becomes 60%, with dx11 it's always 100%. The game needs big amount of cpu optimization, especially with rtx on - it makes cpu bottlenecking even more, it's just unplayable now. And the only difference between dx11 and 12 is dlss/fsr+rtx.

Thanks for the input guys.

Apparently DX11 is faster than DX12 because the devs used some sort of DX12 wrapper over the DX11 code to get the RT and DLSS/FSR working. The base game is still coded in DX11 so those who can't run RT at good framerates should use DX11.

In the first village I get 57fps (DX12) and 90fps (DX11) with my 3080FE. DX11 is much faster and visuals look practically the same. You can used reshade to add AO and AMD's CAS to make it look better with hardly any loss.

I just use DX11, without RT everything else maxed out and looks great. I get 120-140fps average on an RX 6900. Running DX12 with RT drops to 50-60. I recommend just using DX11 since DX12 isn't technically imo properly integrated and you will run into issues here and there. Don't use the scaling stuff it just ruins the overall look of the game.

LMAO There's no visual difference between DX11 and DX12 except for DLSS and Ray Tracing, check Digital Foundry video. If you are not gonna use RT stick with DX11 since DX12 is broken.

DX12 may have better performance in 4K without DLSS. In other cases DX11 without RT looks exactly the same (as DX12 without RT) but performs better.

Confirmed. For me anyways I'm getting solid 60fps with DX 11, and it looks the same !
