Use silver or steel sword on wolves?
I am on a new playthrough to pass the time before B & W comes out, and I am still confused how to fight wolves. They are beasts so I would assume I use silver like everything else, but whenever I fight them Geralt pulls out his steel sword instead. Are wolves treated the same as monsters or do they and other animals like bears still take steel to fight?

Humans and animals= Steel
Monsters or basically anyting thats not based on the real world= silver.

Hopes this helps.

Silver is not for "beasts" it is for supernatural monsters. Wolves are natural creatures so need steel. You can tell from the health bars anyway. Red = steel sword and silver = silver sword. Geralt knows what he is doing.

Steel for all non-magical based enemies, i.e. natural ones.

Both swords are for monsters according to the more so there's no real cut and dry way to tell. Wolves in particular are not sensitive to silver so steel would be the way to go.

The real dead giveaway for how to tell as far as the game goes though is checking the color of the health bar. If the health bar is red that means use steel. If the health bar is silver use silver. Geralt will usually do this for you automatically though. No other method is foolproof. You'll find exceptions to them. Like some wolves you need silver swords to fight such as the ones called by werewolves or leshens. So yeah just check the health bar color of you are unsure.

Look at the colour of the enemies health bar.

Red Health Bar = Human or beast = Steel sword
Silver Health Bar = Monster = Silver sword

Yea you can pretty much figure which sword you need by health bar design how described above, also Geralt himself get appropriate sword auto, it can be confusing when there is mixed fight and geralt start switching between swords if you focus on different types, but there are only couple of those fights.
