I'm not saying that It did'nt kill people, and I know people want it dead because of their loss and the Danger it continues to pose, but, I think if the guy Did more then a Few Signs, and stopped Compensating a Guild that's Sending their people to die, because it's easier to get paid that way. Well, then maybe it would'nt be a bad thing to let it live.
The Count talks about it possibly creating a New Cross breed, to which Geralt Replies "I Hope Not", but, since we Know that it's weak to Fire, it's just as likely to pass on that Weakness. The Increased potency of the Venom is a Concern, but, Seriously, I think if a Normal person got attacked by one of these things, they'd be Dead anyway.
This thing is a Killer, but, it does'nt just Kill indescriminately.
Think of it like you would a Lion. It's Dangerous, but only if you're stupid enough to get too close
In that way you could say it's doing us a favor by weeding out the stupid people.
Also what about the Succubus in Novigrad. She may have Purposely Killed several Guards.
She says that she did it in self defense, but, the Bodies showed signs she'd fed on their life force, which isn't something they do as an attack, they trick men into bed, and drain their life while they're having sex, so, if she did that, she may have just been Feeding on them, and lied to you.
I think the best thing is to leave the Silver Basilisk alone.
It's likely that it will truly be the last of it's kind, whether or not some new Subspecies forms.

i spared it in the end, much like the others before it. like the 2 succubi or that one... shapeshifter person.
Geralt doesn't like to fight Dragons either just for that reason.
But that letter about bandits killing the travellers swung me. It's not enough of a threat to humans. Something can hopefully be done to allow it to live, and to prevent people dying. Although I'd have loved the chance to give the Count a smack.
Warning signs or not the merchants that hire them will keep sending new people dispite the warning signs and they know that the count will compensate them generously.
If disobeying some posted paper notice carries a death sentence, then the problem isn't with disobeying the notice, it's with whatever causes the death. Not to mention that not everyone necessarily knew what they were getting themselves into, or believed the notice. The monster is the problem, not disobedience.
Besides, I doubt anyone would cry over the death of the last drowner. Basilisks are cool-looking, so it's easy to feel bad for them. But they're monsters all the same, a dangerous non-native species, and they gotta go.
It seems it was a bunch of bandits that do the luring and often also killing of the merchants, making it appear the basilisk did it.
This is even further supported because you can see Iocaste flying around and there's literally no way to get her to aggro you.
