Whispering Hillock Question
Hi all,

I recently completed the quest with the whispering hillock. I forgot to save my game before i made my decision so i cant go back and check this for myself. When you're by the tree you have the option to kill it, set it free OR take time to think about it. I already know the outcomes of setting the spirit free or killing it. My question is, if you take the third option (take time to think about it) is there a sidequest where you do some additional research on the spirit? Like go talk to villagers to get more info?

I shouldn't have to because I know he's wrong. I've made my point with proof but he hasn't. So the responsibility is his, should he choose to continue with this (which I doubt he will because he's wrong).

The link you provided said that if you free it after you restored Johnny's voice but before meeting the Crones, you can actually save them. The link you provided from CDPR didn't include this version of events, but only that you go to Whispering Hillock before Crones and Johnny. I honestly don't care about this anyway, I always kill the bugger. Like I said, after reading that book in Skellige, I've never intented to free it anyway, but I may try it just for the fun :D

The link I provided from CDPR mentions that if you do not meet Anna and the children before releasing the tree spirit, then the question of rescuing the children does not even arise.

Saving the children means they will absolutely show up in Novigrad later, no exceptions. And the only way that happens is if you meet the children and then free the spirit, thereby initiating the dialog where the tree spirit says only she can save the children. But in turn that kills Anna.

Nevertheless, experiment and find out.

You will find the tree spirit during that quest, you will get a quest marker.

Oh and you can't save both Spoiler: Identity of the tree spirit, fate of the children, Anna, bloody Baron and downwarren

As I understand it, yes, freeing the spirit before meeting the Crones will:

-save the kids

-save Anna and Phillip

-stymie the Crones (we all know that's the most important because ♥♥♥♥ 'em)

-doom the citizens of Downwarren (I think they die either way, so there's no good ending for them)

The spirit is found at the Whispering Hillock, east-southeast of the orphans' location in the swamp. Good luck.

I posted the first link so you could get an idea of all the viewpoints regarding the matter. Anyway, this situation does NOT cause the children to show up in Novigrad.

In that case please provide a more relevant source, I'll wait.

And this comment by someone from CDPR, is specifically referring to doing the "Whispering Hillock" quest BEFORE even starting the "Ladies of the Wood" quest -- meaning that you would not have met the children at that point and he's right about that part.

Jesus, I really have to write this whole thing out again because you are too lazy to look it up for yourself and I refuse to do it for you.

Even if you start Ladies of the Wood and not talk to the children, they won't be saved if you free the spirit. It's a binary situation.

Yeah I imagind it. Here, take a look at this note and tell me if you've suddenly become delusional as well:

https://witcher.gamepedia.com/New_admissions_to_Miss_Marabella%27s_shelter

I took a look at it. What about it? Doesn't say anything out of the ordinary. Says the children are spared if Geralt frees the spirit. Doesn't mention Anna being saved.

I'm touched, but that's what the meds are for. To help you cope better on the internet.

Alright, read all that. But here's the thing:

Children saved, Anna killed.

If Anna is not cursed, the Baron will be able to take her away to the mountains in search of a hermit who may be able to help her.

Anna saved, children killed.

No. The children will be missing from Mirabella's school in this case. Feel free to prove otherwise.

Children saved, Anna killed.

Children killed, Anna saved.

The people of Downwarren will only survive if you kill the Tree Spirit. In every other scenario, they will be driven mad by the possessed black mare and kill each other.

Irrelevant in this discussion.

If I'm freaking delusional, then I was so for five completely separate playthroughs. My first, the children died before I realized there was another way. And I found that by searching on the web.

I'll ignore this rambling.

Google is indeed your friend. Or at least it can be, should you decide to avail yourself of it.

I suck at Google-fu. Please do teach me and provide a proper reference for your claims like I did instead of harping on the same "Google it" drivel.

As for the "experiment and find out" comment, it wasn't intended for you.

Guys no reason to argue about this stupid thing. There are hidden glitches in game, some were fixed some were not, so this stupid argument will make me load my save and try it xD

You win. You're absolutely right and everyone who's ever played the game for the past two years is dead wrong.

Shock therapy is waiting for you.

You don't have to reason with me. Simply provide the link which you're referring to and I'll shut up. So far you haven't provided a single shred of evidence supporting your claim. The one link you did provide does not even mention anything about Anna being saved. You know why? Because you cannot save both Anna AND the children.

believe what you will ime BB was right on many things during past two years so if i had to make bet this time it's clear what it'd be. he doesnt have to prove you anything info's out there for anyone who cares to find it.

Fact is that the info is not out there because as I said... saving both Anna and the children in the same playthrough is not possible. So far I've only been hearing things like "info is out there...", "google it...", yada yada. But not a single proper piece of evidence. If the info is really out there, why don't you show it to me?

I would challenge anyone to prove me otherwise with the right references. And I frankly don't care who you're rooting for since I wasn't even discussing anything with you. I'm stating things as they are... you could believe anything you want and that wouldn't change anything.

P.S. Buzzard Bee seems to have deleted one of his comments. Surprise surprise. No matter, I have his responses quoted.
