I like Geralt to wear nice looking gear and it's better looking.
I'm darned sure you could handle witcher 3 to the end on deathmarch without grandmaster gear but it makes life a little simpler...so why not?
You should have an absolute stash of cash to splurge by this time and nothing to spend it on...I've decorated Corvo Bianco with five suits of grandmaster gear...it looks cool.
If you're a bit stingy on your money buy all the nice gear for Roach...the stuff of the five chivalric virtues suits your mare fine.
Also, if you're not too familiar with the game, the advantages of the grandmaster gear become apparent when you fight the final boss.
The effects from having the full set are pretty nice and the stats are some of the best.
They also happen to be the only decent looking armours in the game, all the randomly generated armour makes you look like some fat jester and look like trash, and I can't think of any unique non witcher armours that have better stats.
Don't bother with the swords though unless you really want that secondary effect or for completions sake. Aerondight is the best silver sword, even when you move into ng+ it's still better than any you'll find, and there are a bunch of nice steel swords with higher damage and better effects.
