But then again it has -10 accuracy, meaning it misses a lot more...
It's also because guns have penetration (DR bypass), which you can increase with a talent. It also has a somewhat better consistent dps than all stringed range weapons: bows are faster but weaker, crossbow types are strong, but equally slow to reload.
Also, I think the pellets are considered separate attack attempts, so all bonuses apply to each shot several times. Not sure about that though.
Ranger with his accuracy bonuses can instagib enemies.
My Cipher with blunderbuss damage 60-80.
Yep, better use bows for very high DR enemies.
