How do I get a border?

I'm in Gold right now with a peak rating of ♥♥♥♥, do I get a golden border at the end of Season 7 or do I have to play two seasons?

You get a border at the end of the season.

If you get to minimum Gold this season then you'll get a Gold Border after the season ends, of course placing in Platinum or Diamond will give you a border of that rank instead.
Basically get to the rank you want the border of and then wait for the end of the season to recieve it.

But if the next season you don't re-earn the same rank of last season, the game will give you whatever rank's border you got this season, overwriting the older one (so if you were Platinum last season and got to Gold this one, next season you'll have the Gold one from the latest season and not the Platinum one you have before)

From what I understand from multiple sources, yes.
What matters in your best elo, not current. As long as you reach gold within a season, you will be rewarded with the gold border the season after regardless of the elo you finished with.
