Gameplay-wise it’s better for controller users due to using MonoGame instead of RPGmaker as well as having a virtual desktop instead of using your native desktop, has diagonal movement, extra unlockables and achievements, proper widescreen support and Steam Input support.
The only thing it’s missing from the original as far as I can tell is the immersion of the original being on your desktop, which was a necessary sacrifice to allow for full controller support.
All of the "meta" stuff in the game no longer occurs, everything occurs within "The World Machine", so it will change the in-game wall paper, you'll have to move the in-game window outside of the world machine rather than your actual desktop, and Niko walks outside his own game window into the world machine instead of walking out into your actual desktop, etc.
This is less special in a way, but it was necessary for the console versions.
