They might need less shield penetration

Right, I've got a Barricuda with neutron beams and a couple particle lasers, combine that with shieldbusters and pulse turrets and everything just crumbles to space dust.

I'm kind of wondering what the beams are I've seen some enemy millitia ships using, dull green dueled beam weapon that just shreds my mark 5 shields

Korian Viridian laser perhaps?

And yeah mining/Viridian lasers/neutron beams are OP as hell. My Minotaur with Mk6 mining/Viridian lasers and neutron beams is completely unstoppable. Takes a fleet of destroyers and an entire wing of fighters to even put a dent in my shields.

Maybe? I'm not good with the lazor names though I got a mark 2 my self, if the beam gets more dull and a faster pulse the higher the level is then maybe.

Acually I think it's the other way around; the beams feel as a broadside should, It's the other options that feel weak. Turrets on a ship are suppose to be secondary to the ship's main battery, up until you get the neutrons it's quite the opposite.

just my opinion:

really? ive always found the protons to be far better, longer range, great accuracy at a half second charge ( never needed to fully charge them to hit with 90% of the shots) and the most damage per shot, meaning the 2 other basics are just putcassed since their "speed" doesnt give them an edge, and u can still kite at the longest range with the protons, not to mention the horrible accuracy ith the laser broadsides.

Uhhh... i can use the neutrons to hit fighters. I couldn't claim the same with protons,

Indeed..its that the other weapons are all weak as hell.

I prefer Proton Cannon as well compared to Neutron Beam, no need to fully charge and is spam-able :Aste_Roy:

I agree with The D, Neutron Beam needs fully charge to be fully accurate in range whereas Proton Cannon only need like 25% or so charge from decent range and depending on the ship's broadside location to be really accurate not to mention when hull's damaged Neutron Beam loses accuracy worse than Proton

But then again...you dont need neutrons to kill gunships and lower.....ECM flak disables them en masse and are super easy targets for everything else ou have, including broadsides.

My fav secondary is EMP Flak, it just shuts down small crafts and makes Proton hits them even more easy (I notice when the small crafts are doing maneuvers it does evade Proton broadside shots quiet often but EMP Flak makes them sitting ducks)

LMAO you just described my EXACT loadout.

It's always funny how peeps getting to 2nd system discover the neutron beams and think wow this is best weapon ever!!! Then when they hit mark IV gear / systems and upwards and start to realize the downsides of neutron beams broadsides compared to other options hehe :)

so true. when you get a big ship, i use proton broadsides. for hitting big targets, you need only part of the charge time. to hit with neutrons, you need to wait=lot less damage. neutron beams are still good enough.
