2 player online Co-Op?
I know you are very small, 2 people, I was just wondering if like...LAN or some type of 2-3 player online Co-Op would be hard to add to the game. It would be perfect, Space is a big place, and it would allow for larger scale battle scenes too...

Can't do it because it's very difficult to keep clients synced due to the sheer amount of physical objects in the game. They would have to redesign it from the ground up and make it an entirely different kind of game from the one they wanted to make.

To be fair, this didn't stop multiplayer for Freelancer back in the day. And the maps sported asteroid fields, stations, NPCs, you name it. Syncing isn't an issue.

Edit: Even found a video for yah.

Rebel Galaxy isn't Freelancer. That and I'm quoting the devs. Pretty sure they know what their engine is capable of and what it isn't.

The nature of how the game was coded doesn't allow for multiplayer. Syncing is an issue, but not because it's an insurmountable problem if the game is built with multiplayer in mind.

They'd have to rebuild from the ground up to support it, which rules it out for this time around, but it could potentially be considered for a sequel or something in the future. Unfortunately, the devs were pretty clear it's not something they'll be able to patch into the game.

Yeah, I didn't think it'd get it. Just playing this game feels like my Merc should be a friend of mine...2 player Co-op would be amazing. To me this game is just amazing all around, the way it feels...the Hyperspace (or Warp)...it's amazing. I mean...it's obviously not Hyperdrive like on Stargate, but you still move pretty damn fast.

Makes me wonder if they could remake just a Solar System for coop. Instead of the Universe, just give like...1 solar sysem to start out with.

Spinoff game idea - RG: Merc Pilot. First-person cockpit view with more conventional space sim feel, 3D movement around cap ships that fight on a 2D plane. You fly a Gunship, with 2 or 3 models available at the outset, and more to be purchased as time goes on. Coded with multiplayer in mind, but no actual multiplayer released in the base game, until...

RG2 includes multiplayer where a player in RG2 can hire a merc from the Merc Pilot game instead of (or as well as) the AI mercs. Both games would be built with multiplayer in mind, but until both are released, the multiplayer would not actually be implemented into whichever project is released first.

That sounds to me like it could be pretty awesome!

Could you Imagine Rogue Galaxy if each ship took multiple players? You could walk around the ship, someone had to Pilot it, and if a battle started, alarms would go off, it'd tell you to man the battle stations, then people had to get to Turrets, shields, Rail Guns...and it'd be voice communicated...so many good ideas for this developer. I'd like to be on the creative team!
