Well.. pseudo 3D anyway. You're still confined to a horizontal plane, which in essence is the same as Nova and other games of its day.

I would love to see this game modded at some point in the future to be REVisited (Or EVO Cold Fusion.). That should tell you the level of Escape Velocity fan I am on the inside. :P

To answer your question directly. Yes. I got Rebel Galaxy because it looked to be the first space game in a long, loooong time to give me that Escape Velocity feel. So far, it's been amazing, and I don't regret a single second that I've played.

Really all it's missing, is multiple escorts like you mentioned, planet/station domination, fighter bays, and being able to offer hostile stations a bribe to dock. It's already got everything else! :D

This game really doesn't remind me of it at all. I played my friends' copy of it and it was a total letdown. I have at least 20000 (yes, that many) hours into EV; I've made quite a few of my own plug-ins, literally played every TC, used nearly every addon (including but not limited to SpaceTraders, Path of The Wraith, etc) and I have to say this game is a total letdown. The pseudo-3d is really bad IMO; if anything it detracts from the gameplay. Aiming is horrific; at least in EV you could reliably see where your shots were going to go, whereas in this game when you precision aim you can't even see the line half the time...wtf? The closest thing I have found so far to EV Would be StarSector, and it's REALLY slow on development, and honestly quite different than EV in many regards (but still somehow manages to have that EV feel in a few ways). Minor complaint here, but I'm used to not having to have something to pick up cargo; the tractor beam seems like a waste of time tbh. The Tractor Beam in EV (if you played the older ones; I own the whole trilogy) was awesome because you could use it to prevent fighters from fleeing your amazingly nice Kestrel/capship/whatever you use and the repulsor beam did the opposite; useful for fighters trying to keep capships away etc. This game is just...idk it feels like it has a lot of potential but falls very short.

Edit: Also Naev, but again, both of the two afformentioned games (StarSector and Naev) are slow on development. Worth the plays, though, for sure. StarSector is $10 atm and Naev is free.

Yeah, part of why I bought this was that it reminded me of the Escape Velocity games, probably more Nova (like you said) than the first one (which is my favorite), but still :)

Yeah I totally agree, I loved Ev Nova (it's still sitting in my program files somewhere) and I bought this game on the basis that it would be a revamped experience and it has mostly lived up to that

Agree this game has a similar feel to EV in its emphasis on random missions, fun and flavor instead of focusing every twiddly detail on the fact that you're IN SPACE. Trading in EV was much more possible (or fun?). The combat, visuals and just about everything else though in RG is its own awesome thing.
