No Controller option

I've tried restarting steam and restarting the computer, but on the options screen the only controller option available to me is mouse and keyboard. This is with an XBox 360 connected via USB. "(Gamepad recommended) is even written above the controller selection pulldown menu. Use PS4 artwork is a tick box, but I have no idea what that even means. Is this a bug?

Do you use Xpadder? You might need to install it so that it registers.

You need to go into the game cfg file in Documents/games/double damage/rebel galaxy/local_settings and put a 1 where it says gamepad on the first line....save it and that should work........may as well baxk up that file first. My son loves the game so I guess i will break down soon and get it.

XBox controller is always connected and I use it for FIFA 16, so the port shouldnt be an issue. I'll try the other suggestions, starting with fiddling with the config.

Problem i have sometimes is i use a speedpad, and alot of games will detect that as controller 1 and my xbox control as controller 2. Some games are fine with it, but some i have to unplug speedpad and then disconnect and reconnect the xbox controller to make it controller 1

I'm having the same issue (ps4 controller) with nothing showing up in the drop down box, I tried the fix with cfg file and still nothing.

Took forever for me to get this answered, too. Couldn't stand to leave this thread as a dead end. Hopefully someone comes along, finds this, and is spared days of agony. I got my PS4 controller to work while plugged in to USB after installing inputmapper. Install it and hook up your controller before turning on steam. I've read but not confirmed that it does fine with other PS remotes as well as other console remotes. I have Rebel Galaxy referencing all PS4 buttons now since I checked its box at startup. With input mapper active, "gamepad" was an option for controller at startup box. Hope this helps. Inputmapper was free, btw.

I followed this instruction, but it doesn't work. As soon as I start the game, the file just reverts back to the default, replacing the 1 I saved with the 0 again.

Try setting the file to read only before you launch the game. It might stop any changes you make via the launcher from taking effect though.

Same here, changed config file to 1
In Steam, View, Settings, Controller and mapped the gamepad keys.
Yet, the game won't show the gamepad in controller.

Any other ideas, it's now 2018 ... I'm guessing nothing should be expected moving forward...

I'm using a PS3 controller. basically is uses a tool called:

ScpToolkit v1.6.238.16010

On github (in case steam deletes the link) and spoofs windows 10 into thinking your controller is a ps4 or xbox controller.

I had to go into Steam Settings, Controller, General Controller Settings.

Once I setup the controller in Steam it showed up in the menu for Rebel Galaxy.
