Adding music to the game.
The soundtrack for this game is great and really does a good job of getting you pumped up, though after hearing the same tracks multiple times, it makes you crave for more. I noticed the music files were in a single folder, were OGG format and were named and not numbered. This tells me that adding new songs probably wouldn't work with a simple drag and drop with the way things are currently set up.

DEVS: Please allow us to use our own music! Add a "CUSTOM MUSIC" folder, with subfolders such as "COMBAT", "EXPLORATION", etc. Then allow us to drop in some MP3's or something into those folders and have the game play those songs along with the OST when appropriate. Bethesda games allow for this and it is an amazing feature. This would enhance enjoyment of this game tenfold and will keep it from getting repetitive. Thanks in advance.

There is exactly that. You simply check the custom soundtrack box on the launcher and it lets you select custom folders. You can add the game music to your custom folders if you like. It's pretty spiffy.

I can't get this to work even though I created a folder, put music in there, checked custom music, and started the game. It just keeps playing the same obnoxious game soundtrack.

EDIT: Found out you only add the path, not the file to the path.

I've added a folder full of music, but the first song (alphabetically) in the directory plays each time the list starts. Context switches often enough that this song never completes; so the next time I (whatever) drop out of combat, song 1 starts again. Am I doing this right? Is there a way to get it to randomly choose a file out of the folder each time?

I was totally thinking of this on my drive to work. I loved it when I found GTA IV had a custom station you could set up. Might just have to add the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack to it.
So does anyone have recommendations for what songs would fit best in this game? I think Danger Zone is obvious but I would love to hear recommendations of songs I might not know about.

Also maybe a bit too heavy compared to the other songs but I think I might include https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52LpN5aIb3U

It doesn't appear to matter how many you include, you'll only hear the first one or two during normal play. You'll hear more if you spend a very long time in one place (such as on-station, or hanging in space/traveling without stopping).

Hmmm, I would think this would be a quick fix given the normal music plays in random order...

Oh no way, Return of the Living Dead, eh? I love that series but... maybe I didn't give the music enough attention.

The song is by Blues Saraceno called Evil Ways. This youtube link has some similar music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tnrhX55mzI&index=2&list=RDp7sj-CqKRcE

IMO the first is the best. The second one is OK it's just a less well made rehash of the first. They had a LOT of issues making it and it was made by someone who didn't get the genre. ROTLD's soundtrack is an excellent example of mid/late 80's punk. ROTLD 2 has a decent soundtrack but it's nowhere near as good as the first. First movie is pure 80's horror goodness that has aged pretty well because the dialogue is so good. The second is pure 80's cheese. Both are great for a laugh.

The third movie is just OK. Pretty mediocre 90's horror fare. The rest are so garbage they couldn't even give the film negatives away when the company that owns them went bankrupt.

The soundtrack from the TV show Firefly (2005) is blending nicely with the default music in Rebel Galaxy. It softens, and expands it, but doesn't subvert the overall mood.

Well, some of the soundtrack. Not all of it fits exceptionally well.

This might just be the most polished Space Sim ever to be made. I know it's off but I just had to say it.
