Ordonance Full?

I killed some foes and got a purple drop with "ordonance". When focusing it, "the text was something like "retrieve ordonance".

But I couldn't pick it up. Not even with empty cargo. What does this mean?

Ordnance is for missiles and rockets, like the Mk1 Swarm Rocket Turret. You have to replenish the ammunition in them occasionally at stations. These Ordnance crates can refill you while in space. If you don't need them, it doesn't help or hurt. No reason to pick up.

One more question: in the beginning I was struggling quite a bit, but found some pretty op broad sides from a drop. Does the game have random drops that can be better than things in the shop?

Certain weapons are sort of hard to find. Take Mk6 mining lasters for example. They aren't that common in stations. You can sometimes get them from drops. Some weapons are faction-specific or belong to factions you can't build faction with and are rare drops.

Yes there are some drops that can not be found in the shop. Not a ton, but they are great if you find them. Secret Tip: hunt Pirate Lords.
