Wish for Salvaging.
We have a mining laser. can we salvage space hulks or anything like that?

You can find cargo containers here and there-mostly dropped from enemies but I'm pretty sure I've found them at random. You can also find hackable transponders. Making some of the abandoned space hulks you come across now and then salvagable would definitely be a cool addition. Maybe make it a rare find and have it give two or three times as much cargo as a cargo container? +1 for the idea.

I agree.
I'm thinking drops are taken into account, economy-wise so not sure how easy this would be to implement. It might be easy to do but might end up being something that throws everything out of whack. Still-it's kind of like finding barrels in an rpg. Maybe make it so that every now and then instead of finding loot you get one carrying volatile freight that blows up. Add an element of risk that way the thrill of discovery is mixed with some apprehension.

Mostly it's just down to making it clear to the user, and balanced. We couldn't let you salvage ALL wrecks, because some of them are large setpiece chunks we don't want to go away, and as Zid mentions, there is a certain balance to distribution that has to be taken into account, re:drop rates and economy.

Anyway, it's certainly a doable thing, and the functionality to do it already exists - it's more about presentation and data balance. A little fiddly, and probably not something we'll mess with right now, for sure.

But cool all the same! :)
*Nods* Figured this wasn't likely to happen-at least for now. That being said I suppose there's always mods. Never know what folks will end up being able to do. :)

I can see how it might be a challange. What about something like a random spawns of space junk around derelics one finds rather than direct salvage ? Or are you already doing this ?

We just do cargo containers in the debris fields right now, which you salvage - because they are visually distinct and it makes it obvious that they're interactable.

how about remains of big ships you blow up and salvaging those? so debris from ships that float around that you salvage essentially.

Is that doable? Not sure if you already can, as i dont own it yet T_T

You already have this. The chunks of ship floating around aren't huge but there's definitely evidence of your causing some mischief.

It would be awesome to salvage usable parts for your ship to use as an upgrade one day.

I think I saw in The Rev's recent vids , picking up a piece of salvage - mk 1 deflector .

That is what Travis is pointing out. When ships explode there are goods to salvage. In some cases that may be ammo crates or cargo containers that can hold goods, equipment (weapons), and credits.

Sounds good. I can't wait to start playing
