Precision aim good when facehugging the enemy?
Does it still do more damage to use precision aim when My broadside is touching their broadside?

I'd say no, because at very close range, you can "spam" shooting without aiming, you're firing faster, and you'll always hit (or nearly).

But at VERY close range, like hulls touching, the hitbox seems a bit weird sometimes, for both, specially with laser weapon.

Most of players choose lasers, so I'd say fighting at very close range with this weaponry is not a good idea...
Besides, lasers are great for figting at good range, and with aiming.

But won't non-fully-charged shots do less damage per shot?

I think charging your shots really only makes them more accurate, it doesn't increase damage afaik. Even if I don't fully charge it, photon cannons still hit pretty hard at range, just with some of the shots going wide.

Exactly. So it's more damage only because all of your shots hit when aiming at maximum.
But with a large size opponent, at close range, your shots won't miss, so there's no need to waste time aiming.

Okay thanks for the info :)

Agreed!

Longer charge seems to be for focusing more Beams onto one spot, causing intense damage in a single area.
(Which is the way I use them in battles with bigger ships).

While in battles with Small ships, I tend to shoot earlier.

If there's a few little ships within their Unfocused shot range / span, I'll take out 2 maybe in one shot, at times, I suppose it all counts on if any of my Auto Turrets have done damage to the ships as well.

Precision aim is pointless in this game. You're better off letting your guns autotarget.

This is particularly wrong...
Aiming (and specially at mid/long range) increase your efficiency measurably.

Besides, even at close range, for very small ships, aiming grants you the "one-shot".

Playing in turret view is pointless, that's obvious. But aiming with broadsides weapons is really recommended.

With precision aim (Broadsides) I can regularly take out fighters/gunships in one shot due to the auto-aim over long distances.

But yeah it does indeed seem that when hugging your enemy broadside, spamming LMB is better over precision-aim. And I also spam those rockets then (I forgot their name) that do MASSIVE damage to enemy capital ships and when hugging they do not miss. Taking out flagships in ~5 seconds 100%-->0%.

Those missions where a station is swarmed with enemies and where you only have to take out one big ship? Boost to the ship with deflectors, go broadside, go nuts for a few seconds, boost out with deflectors (or be lame and exit to title) and cash in a huge reward.

I apologize. You're right. I had turret view confused with precision aim. I'm dumb.

It depends somewhat on your target, your ship, and your weapons.

With a bigger ship firing at a smaller one, even at point blank, many of your shots will scatter around the target if you don't touch the aim at all. Against a ship larger than your own, you can usually be confident of hitting with every shot regardless. Focusing for a moment will tighten the spread just enough to compensate for a slightly smaller target ship, and the specific range and size difference will determine how much you need to hold the aim before you fire. It's not usually much needed, and as long as they're close-ish, you very rarely need a full charge before firing.
